OCTOBER IS
SUBSTANCE ABUSE PREVENTION MONTH

October was first declared as National Substance Abuse Prevention Month in 2011. Since then, it has been embraced as a time to acknowledge the harm substance abuse can cause to individual and community health, to remember those who have lost their lives to substance use, and to educate youth and families about the dangers of drug use. "Studies show that the earlier an individual starts smoking, drinking or using drugs, the greater the likelihood of developing addiction" The National Child Traumatic Stress Network (NCTSN), accessed 27, Sept 2021.

To bring awareness of this topic to Ganesha parents, a parent workshop will be held this month on substance abuse prevention. Our TUPE student club will also present on the dangers of tobacco and vaping and what parents need to know about JUUL.
