Being Nobody (The Witness Series #1) Kindle Edition
Now at 26, Sam has moved to Chicago and is working at The Rusty Nail as a bartender calling herself Mallory. Her father passed away two years before leaving her to finish what he started…put away the ‘bad guys’. Living on the run in hiding has been harder than she ever imagined, and finding love has always been out of the question. Who would want to be with someone they couldn’t be honest with? She’s resigned herself to being alone, until… Brian walks in.
Brian Sellers is everything Sam has been trying to avoid her entire life. He’s clad in leather and torn jeans, donning several tattoos…all-in-all a bad boy. When their eyes connect one evening, everything she’s ever told herself falls to the wayside as an indescribable draw pulls her to him. He’s sexy and domineering, and something about him reminds her of a boy she used to know.
The more time she spends with Brian, the more she wants him, but…Brian is not everything he seems to be. When Sam happens to see the tat on his wrist, the same tat that her father saw all those years ago, she realizes she’s flirting with the enemy. Brian has no idea that he’s hanging out with the one girl his boss wants dead.
Can Sam hide her identity from the first man she’s had real feelings for? What will Brian do when he finds out who she really is? Can love really conquer all?

This book was so good, if it had been the complete story, I would still have had to read the entire story in a day.
In walks Brian, he’s everything that Sam has ever dreamed of, he looks and reminds Sam of someone that she left behind long ago. After spending some time with him she’s falling in love with him but she still needs to hide her identity.
This was the first time that I have read anything written by Heather D’Agostino. She weaves a fantastic story of love and suspense that just draws you into the book until it finishes. I really enjoyed the writing style, it really dragged me into the book completely and let me enjoy it from Sam’s point of view rather than just an outsider. Sam feels like she’s a nobody and when she meets Brian she feels like she can finally be somebody. But between the two of them they seem to have an endless of secrets that they are keeping from each other. Their chemistry together just burns off the pages whenever they are together. And I just can’t get enough of Brian and Sam together. I can’t wait for the next book.

A man walks into a bar... Sounds like the beginnings of a joke right? Well, it kinda is, just not the funny kind. Samantha has been in witness protection since the age of seven. Her father witnessed a crime and ever since her family has been in hiding. They always have to leave causing her to be wary of getting close to people, she can never truly be herself, and is not even sure who "herself" is anyway. She made the mistake of getting close once, in high school, to a boy named Devlin. She was hurt so badly when they's had to leave and assume new identities that she's been closed off ever since. Devlin knew who she was in her soul but even he didn't know her real name.
Back to the part where a man walks into a bar...
I swallowed as I continued to stare. I couldn't figure it out, but I felt like I knew him. His hair was slightly darker than I remembered. His shoulders broader, and his physique more muscular, but he looked just like someone I used to know...Someone I used to love.~ Mallory
So she's living under an assumed name, her father has passed away and it's just her and her mom now, and they are still in witness protection. They are living separately and Mallory is working at a bar called the Rusty Nail. It's while working at the Rusty Nail that she meets Brian who she initially thought could have been Dev grown up. The brief reminder of her past love and the electricity that seems to spark between her and Brian causes them to get to know each other better. What Mallory starts to learn though is that Brian could be very dangerous to her safety...
My eyes darted around the room searching for anything that would clue me in on what happened, and that's when I noticed the open drawer. There, on the floor, was my box...the box that held my past, the box that told my secrets, the box that Brian had found.~ Mallory

I really felt for Mallory in this book, she has had to be so many people over the course of her life, not being able to really be herself and having to think fast and up and leave if the time came and her unhappiness, loneliness as well as trying to live everyday like normal. I really felt for her and that really came out in the book, even when Mallory was doing "normal" it was a task.
When she meets Brian and the chemistry between them is HOT, Mallory can't take it anymore and follows her heart, until she sees the reason why she can't stay with him.
What I liked about this story is, what I thought at first is not how it turns out and this is defiantly a rollercoaster ride of a book.
Very very highly recommended and I can't wait to read book 2. This book ends on a clifhanger.

Sam/Mallory and Brian/Dev had a story that I really got into. I couldn’t put this book down – at all. It sucked me in and didn’t let go until the last page. Their story was one full of suspense, drama, twists and turns, angst, mystery and some steamy sexy scenes and an ending that left me hanging!
Truth be told – I dislike cliffhangers, but I should have realized that by the title indicating #1. So, now I am off to buy book #2 because I need to know what happens to Mallory and Brian. Will they ever see each other again? I need some closure on these two!
