Title
JOINT USE PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN RECREATION AND PARKS AND LAUSD
Subject
Motion - Joint use possibilities between the Department of Recreation and Parks and the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) have recently been discussed and considered by City Councilmembers and the Mayor. Currently, several LAUSD schools have some sort of joint use agreement with the City. Some examples include the use of sports fields by either partY, gymnasiums, and parking lots. Past Council actions have encouraged development of joint use projects between various City entities and LAUSD. Joint use partnerships between LAUSD and the Department of Recreation and Parks could address and help fulfill the goals of both schools and parks, and a joint venture between Recreation and Parks and LAUSD would allow both to work together to define and fulfill student and department needs. Joint use ventures could strengthen both schools and parks by incorporating events and uses for both students and park visitors. Such joint use partnerships could serve to expand the functionality and availability of parks and recreation space while also providing valuable services to LAUSD schools. THEREFORE MOVE that the Department of Recreation and Parks, in consultation with the Los Angeles Unified School District, be directed to report to the Arts, Parks, Health, and Aging and Audits Committees on joint use possibilities between City parks and City schools.
