Empowering young women: Loretto Academy students tackle real-life skills at 'SHEBuilds 'n Drills' summer camp

EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS) — Students from Loretto Academy learned how to tackle real-life problems by learning carpentry to plumbing.

The Summer has been full of building and fixing for the all female project known as "SHEBuilds 'n Drills camp," which is put together by "Rebuilding El Paso."

The teens learned to use drills and other tools to build their everyday skill set.

"For me it's very important and special to me that she's getting to learn it know. Because there are things that I can not teach her," a mother whose daughter was part of the program, said.

One of the instructors hopes the girls desire to learn more about everyday skills.

"We are going to have them handle basic tools. A tape measure . How to read a tape measure. How to mark something on the 45 degrees," an instructor said.

Math and Science were part of instruction during the hands on experience.

Each girl received a tool bag with tools.
