ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — The Carilion Clinic is celebrating the opening of its new family and community medicine location in Star City.

On Sept. 12, the Carilion Clinic held a ribbon cutting at the new facility on Electric Road, near Carilion’s VelocityCare location. The facility will offer shared services including imaging capabilities.

The new Family and Community Medicine will open with three providers, eight exam rooms, on-site X-rays, and lab capabilities

Michael Jeremiah, M.D., senior vice president and chair of Family and Community Medicine says one of the exciting opportunities that come with the new facility is building on existing capability with teams at VelocityCare to expand primary care offerings.

“So we have, always, a request for more access to a variety of our services, and we’re working on creative ways in order to be able to meet that. This is one way that we’re really excited about, of just some brand net new space and net new clinicians to be able to do that,” said Dr. Jeremiah.

The Carilion Clinic is a non-profit healthcare organization based in Roanoke. Its network of hospitals worked to provide care to nearly 1 million Virginians. The Carilion also participates in medical education and research.

“Expanding access to trusted primary care experts continues to be a priority for our teams,” said Roger Roper, vice president of Family and Community Medicine. “With this project, we were able to customize a brand-new layout and flow to best meet the needs of our community. We look forward to welcoming patients onsite.”

The Family and Community Medicine is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
