Position Summary

TCW is headquartered in Los Angeles, with offices in New York, London, Singapore, and Tokyo among many other locations.

 

The Sovereign Analyst position in the Emerging Markets Group requires a deep knowledge of Asian macroeconomics, political economy, and markets.  The successful candidate will need to have a strong grasp of Asian local rates, currencies, and sovereign credit with experience making value-added and time sensitive recommendations across the Asia sovereign fixed income investment universe in both local currency and external markets.  The successful candidate will be expected to have and continually develop a substantial network of primary contacts, including at relevant policymaking institutions, across the EM Asia region.  The successful candidate will need to be a proven team player, capable of working collaboratively in a dynamic environment with an experienced team of sovereign analysts, corporate credit analysts, EXD and LCD strategists, traders, and portfolio managers. 

 

Ideally, the Sovereign Analyst will be based in TCW’s Singapore office.  Candidates with strong background and experience who prefer to be based in TCW’s Los Angeles office will also be considered.  This position will be required to travel across Asia and between Asia and the USA. 

Essential Duties

  • Perform quantitative and qualitative research to analyze sovereign debt markets and sovereign macro fundamentals
  • Make clear investment recommendations in sovereign debt markets, including local rates, currencies, and hard currency bonds
  • Provide intra-Asian relative value investment recommendations
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external clients about Asian markets and their macroeconomic, policy, political and geopolitical drivers

Required Qualifications

  • 7 years of relevant and direct Asia EMD experience with sell-side, buy-side, or related
  • English language fluency (verbal and written)

Professional Skills Qualifications

- Motivated self-starter with an entrepreneurial attitude
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Demonstrated experience collaborating across functions and teams

Desired Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in economics, business, international public policy, or related
  • Some experience working at a relevant policy institution (National central bank, IMF, ADB, etc.)
