Taking Advantage of Diagnostic Imaging Techniques

Through Quinnipiac University's diagnostic imaging and radiology facilities, BRIQ has been able to make contributions to the fields of archaeology, bioarchaeology, and forensic anthropology using noninvasive techniques. By studying skeletal and mummified remains, current projects aim to demonstrate the benefit of using imaging as an accurate and precise tool in anthropology.

BRIQ – Imaging Science Division Mission Statement

The mission of the Bioanthropology Research Institute at Quinnipiac University Imaging Division (BRIQ – IS) is to provide opportunities to faculty and students to engage in research adapting medical imaging modalities, such as radiography and endoscopy, to the examination of not only mummified and skeletal remains, but also cultural material, ancient and historic artifacts.

Face to Face With the Past

Bioarchaeology studies skeletal remains such as bones and teeth to learn more about people and culture in the past. BRIQ engages students through a hands-on approach using various bioarchaeological research methods, conducting projects that aid in gaining an understanding of past civilizations and people.

BRIQ – Bioarchaeology Division Mission Statement

The mission of the Bioanthropology Research Institute at Quinnipiac University Bioarchaeology Division (BRIQ-B) is to identify and promote research opportunities for faculty and students related to historic and archaeological skeletal remains and associated artifacts.  The division is commited to using interdisciplinary techniques in bioarchaeological studies, particularly as they intersect with other divisions within BRIQ.

Learning From Real-World Experience

Here at Quinnipiac University, students have had the opportunity to work with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for the State of Connecticut. Through recovery, identification, and examination of human remains, students gain a hands-on view of the use of anthropological skills in a medico-legal context.

BRIQ - Forensic Division Mission Statement

The mission of the Forensic Division is to engage in interprofessional collaboration to provide educational and scholarly opportunities to students, faculty, and the public in all matters relating to the recovery, identification, and examination of contemporary and historic human remains, including but not limited to skeletal remains, mummified remains, and associated artifacts within a medico-legal context.
