What’s in it?
This resource contains the full text of more than 1,700 plays written from the mid-1800s to the present by more than 200 Black playwrights from North America, English-speaking Africa, the Caribbean, and other African diaspora countries.
Why should you use it?
Finding the full-text of important works by Black playwrights can be difficult as they are often unpublished and often excluded in standard collections of plays due to systemic racism in the publishing industry and historic exclusion of playwrights from marginalized communities in the curricula of college and university drama/theatre departments. This is a good resource to use when searching for plays that call attention to the Black experience around the world.
Who should use it?
Drama, theatre, Africana Studies, Ethnic Studies, literature, modern languages, and related studies students, staff, instructors, and faculty.
Why use a specific database?
When you use a specific database, rather than a search engine or discovery tool, you often can find more relevant sources. For example, subject databases include sources about that subject only, rather than a general search engine or discovery tool that includes information about everything. This way you don’t have to wade through thousands of irrelevant results!
