IMPORTANT INFORMATION:  Please read in its entirety.  This form should only be completed by current high school JUNIORS (current 11th grade students).

THE POSSE FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP IS A FULL-TUITION SCHOLARSHIP TO ATTEND ONE of the Posse DC six partner institutions.  Students must be nominated for scholarship consideration.

POSSE DC Partnership Institutions for the Washington DC Metropolitan Area:

*Lafayette College (Easton, PA) @ https://www.lafayette.edu/
*Lewis & Clark College (Portland, OR) @ https://www.lclark.edu/

*University of Wisconsin-Madison (Madison, WI) @ https://www.wisc.edu/

Posse:  a group of people who have a common characteristic, occupation, or purpose.

IF YOUR NAME IS SUBMITTED FOR NOMINATION, YOU MUST COMPLETE AN ONLINE APPLICATION BEFORE ATTENDING THE LARGE GROUP INTERVIEW ON A DATE TO BE DETERMINED (USUALLY MID-SEPTEMBER). ATTENDANCE AT THIS INTERVIEW IS MANDATORY FOR SCHOLARSHIP CONSIDERATION.

NOMINATION REQUIREMENTS for a POTENTIAL POSSE SCHOLAR:
  • BE A HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR IN THE COMING FALL
  • DEMONSTRATE EXTRAORDINARY LEADERSHIP WITHIN THEIR HIGH SCHOOL, COMMUNITY, OR FAMILY.  Leadership can be conventional (leadership roles in school activities) or non-conventional (family responsibilities, work or community involvement).
  • EXCEL ACADEMICALLY.  ALTHOUGH THERE IS NO GPA REQUIREMENT, STUDENTS SHOULD HAVE CONSISTENTLY PROGRESSED TOWARD ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE AND SHOW ACADEMIC POTENTIAL.
  • STUDENTS WHO ARE ABLE TO WORK WELL IN A GROUP SETTING AS WELL AS IN AN INDEPENDENT SETTING are considered good fits for Posse.
  • STUDENTS WHO ARE POSITIVE, MOTIVATED, AND AMBITIOUS.

VERY IMPORTANT:  THE POSSE SCHOLARSHIP IS NEITHER A MINORITY NOR A NEED-BASED SCHOLARSHIP AND IS OPEN TO STUDENTS OF ALL BACKGROUNDS.  PLEASE NOTE CURRENTLY, LAFAYETTE COLLEGE, LEWIS & CLARK COLLEGE, AND THE UNIVERSITY OF ROCHESTER ARE ACCEPTING UNDOCUMENTED STUDENTS FOR POSSE CONSIDERATION.

THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW BEFORE REQUESTING NOMINATION:
  • YOU MUST BE WILLING TO COMPLETE EARLY DECISION COLLEGE APPLICATIONS TO ANY ONE OF THE ABOVE SCHOOLS.  Through the Posse interview process, students could be offered a scholarship to any one of the 6 partnership schools.  Nominees selected to move forward in the 3-tier process will be asked to rank their college preferences.  Students may apply to other colleges who offer Early Action or Regular Decision application deadlines.  It is not recommended that a student apply to an Early Decision school outside of the Posse partner schools.
  • YOU MUST BE WILLING TO COMPLETE THE POSSE PROCESS WHICH INCLUDES THREE INTERVIEWS. Posse uses a Dynamic Assessment Process (DAP) for selecting scholarship candidates.  DAP is Posse’s innovative approach to identifying exceptional students through non-traditional forums.  There are three phases:  DAP 1) a large group interview with approximately 100 students.  Posse staff will lead students in a series of interactive small-group workshops; DAP 2) a 20-minute, one-on-one interview with Posse staff; and DAP 3) a final, small group interview, with 20 to 25 students.
WHAT IS POSSE LOOKING FOR?  Posse is looking for individuals who have demonstrated leadership ability, communication and team building skills.  High school GPA and college test scores are considered but are not solely the basis for selection.  Posse is looking for students who have the perseverance and drive to make it in a highly competitive academic environment if given the support of a positive team of peers, a Posse.

FOR NOMINATION CONSIDERATION:  Complete this form by June 3, 2024.  Form submission acts as authorization for Northwest High School to release your name, personal email, home address and academic profile to the Posse Foundation.  There will be a meeting for nominated students BEFORE THE END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR!
