I'm a contemporary romance writer, who likes her men tattooed, her women independent and her coffee strong.

My stories are all about love, but some are of the romantic kind, some of the sad kind and others of the very steamy kind. So if you can stand drama, foul language and some sex, you came to the right place.

Love, Annie

Free At Last Box Set by the incredibly talented and outstanding author Annie Stone contains all three books in this series. I already read them separatedly and can´t say how much I love the story and the characters.
A Fighting Chance by Annie Stone is the first book in a three book series.

Meet Mackenzie - Mac, AND Hunter.
Mac meets Carter Tilman and they have this crazy insta-chemistry. He's a successful, much older business man.
Fast forward. One year later they are happy, very happy. And then his teenage sons move in with them. Mac and the boys get thrown in cold water. This can't go well. They despise her and want her gone.
Hunter, he's the older brother at 17, is an angry, shallow and crude teen and has a lot of grow up to do.
But slowly his feelings toward Mac change.

Favorite Quote: " You can't choose who you fall for. "

A Fighting Chance is a brilliant book, a raw and gritty read and I read it in one sitting. I couldn't put it down. But, and that's my only but, this book ends in a cliffhanger. I really can't wait 'til the next part in this series releases.
A Fighting Chance is beautifully thought out, beautifully told and beautifully written. I love the characters and I love the writing- I could feel the characters emotions in the words.

A losing battle by Annie Stone is the second book in the Free At Last Series. This is not a standalone, you must read book one, a fighting chance, first.
In a losing battle the story picks up where a fighting chance ends.
Hunter has left his home and enlisted in the military, his father is furious and his brother and Mac are sad , so sad.
Hunter goes through boot camp and other specialist training programs. He grows up a lot, finds new friends, but can't forget Mac. After they spent one night together all hell breaks lose.
" Why can't I fall out of love with her ? " - Because she is the love of his life, his one. But they are like star-crossed lovers, they can't be together.
There is so much drama and heart break, this story had me at the edge of my seat. I couldn't put the book down.

Just like a fighting chance, a losing battle made me laugh, it made me cry and I suffered with the characters (mostly ít made me cry). My heart hurt for Hunter and Mackenzie.
But I love the story so much, I love the writing, I love the characters and I really, really can't wait 'll book three releases.

A saving grace by Annie Stone is the third book in the Free At Last Series and the conclusion to Hunter and Mac's story. a saving grace picks up where book two, a losing battle ends. Hunter is severely injured while on deployment in Afghanistan. Mac rushes to him, but he refuses to see her.
But she doesn't give up, not on him and not on her love for Hunter.

Let me tell you, this book gutted me. I could feel the characters emotions in the words. This story has it all—tension, angst, suspense and heartbreak. I've smiled, laughed, cried and was angry at some point. It is not often I feel so connected to the characters, but Annie Stone has accomplished just that. I love the story, the characters and the words. a saving grace is just like the other books in the series raw and gritty and it made my heart bleed for Hunter,Mac and Hazel. And Carey, I can't stop swooning about Carey. He's the unicorn best friend/brother everybody should have.
a saving grace is a emotional read. This book deals with sensitive subjects like depression and attempted suicide.

A saving grace is not a standalone. You must read book one, a fighting chance and book two, a losing battle, first.

And now are this wonderful stories in a box set. Yay!! I one-clicked so fast.
I highly recommend the books and the box set and give 5 stars.

1) A Fighting Chance

Mackenzie Hall is 25 and a therapist at a local gym for abused women. A year ago she entered into a relationship with Carter Tilman, 43, the head of Tilman Financial Group and she has just recently moved in with him.

When a visit from his sons, Hunter, 19, and Carey, 15 surprises the couple they are shocked when the boys announce they went to stay. But the boys resentment for Mackenzie is apparent and she becomes a person she herself doesn't recognize - afraid to rock the boat.

When Carter begins to travel for work more and more the pressure is on Mackenzie but she also finds herself attracted to Hunter, who takes every chance he can to make crude gestures and remarks to Mackenzie.

Will Mackenzie be able to handle the pressure of everything around her or will everything fall apart?

I really enjoyed this book and it turned out totally different than I thought it would.

I loved Mackenzie from start to finish. When we got a glimpse of her past I was shocked at what she overcame and how she truly evolved into a strong woman who deserved every good thing that came her way. I felt so bad that there was so much pressure on her in regards to Carter's sons and he was never there supporting her and realizing how difficult things were for her with them.

So I definitely had mixed feelings with Carter. I liked him at the start and then my opinion definitely went downhill through the book. I was super mad that he just left Mackenzie and went off to work and was never there for her and his sons. Obviously his sons had gone through hell with their mom, Lauren, and the boys needed their dad and he wasn't there. I was super mad at the very end at him with what he did to Lauren first and then Hunter. I was just shocked and really disappointed.

I hated Hunter at the beginning but at the same time I could understand that he was hurting from what happened with his mom and then to go to his dad's and find her there would have been hurtful. He was also a very good looking kid who was super cocky and was ready to test all the boundaries that he could. Being around Mackenzie definitely made him change into a better guy and he truly fell in love with her. I liked that he was willing to follow his own dreams and I was blown away by what it cost him.

I liked the change in Carey from start to finish. He was such an angry boy at the beginning but with the support of Mackenzie he did a total change when he found someone that stuck up for him and cared about him.

I hope that we get more from these characters in another book as I think there is so much that was just left and I personally want more!!

2) A Losing Battle

This is the second book in the series and A Fighting Chance needs to be read first.

Mackenzie Hall is stuck in the middle of a very bad situation. As her relationship with Carter Tilman continues to deteriorate her feelings for his son, Hunter are on the rise. But Hunter as left her and his brother Carey to join the Marine Corp leaving her unsure of what her feelings really are.

Hunter Tilman has left home to join the Marine Corps and his relationship with his dad is over with his choice of careers. He is completely in love with Mackenzie and knows he can't be around her while she is still with his father. Yet he continues to support her, especially when he discovers her traumatic past.

When Hunter and Mackenzie give in to their feelings everything explodes around them and they both lose everything. Will Hunter give Mackenzie a chance to tell him the truth or will he continue to love her at a distance and ruining any chance for a happy ever after?

I both loved and hated this book at the same time!!

This book took me through a series of emotions and there are so many characters that I just want to smack to wake them up and make them realize that communication is the key to success!!

I love Mackenzie and the strength she has from everything that she went through as a child until now. I can't believe how much she is doing and still not truly giving up on Hunter even though she hasn't talked to him in years. I absolutely love her relationship with Carey and I am so glad that she has him to help her through everything.

I loved Hunter at the beginning of the book but he frustrated the living hell out of me by being a complete ass. I know something big is coming by the way this book ended and it frustrates me to no end as he doesn't have to be where he is if he listened to someone or for that matter anyone.

I was so happy when it looked like things were finally going to happen but then Hunter left so quick I was mad. He never gave Mackenzie even ten minutes before jumping to the worst conclusion. So mad!!

So I was also super mad at Shane and even Carey for not saying anything to Hunter while they had a chance. I know Shane didn't want to get involved yet especially with Hazel you'd think that saying something to Hunter really would have been the best thing for everyone involved.

So while I was super mad at a lot of the events in this book I loved the book at the same time for making me feel so much emotion and frustration as I was completely sucked into the book and I hate that I have to wait for the next book!!

3) A Saving Grace

This is the third book in the series and they need to be read in order.

Hunter Tilman has been flown to Germany after his armored vehicle was attacked while he was in Afghanistan and he was severely injured. Struggling with where his life is he makes a drastic choice that has large impications.

But Mackenzie Hall is not ready to give up on Hunter and wants to show him what he is giving up, even if it gets her in a large amount of trouble.

Can Hunter find the light through all the darkness and will Mackenzie and Carey finally be able to show Hunter the love that they have for him?

I have been waiting for this conclusion for a long time and I thought it was great.

I totally understood why Hunter was down but I hated that he pushed Mackenzie away in Germany when it was obvious that she had to care to fly that far to see him. Yet he had just gone through so much that it wasn't a surprise.

I absolutely loved Mackenzie and the strength that she had to know that she had to do whatever it took to make Hunter really understand everything that happened. I felt so bad for what happened to her at the hospital but what she sacrificed was truly for the best for Hunter.

Mackenzie and Hunter had a deep love for each other but Hunter had no clue about what really happened with Mackenzie and Carter. It broke my heart when Hunter began to read some of the emails that Mackenzie and Carey sent and I loved how Mackenzie documented everything for Hunter.

The ending was great and very well deserved!! I loved that Hunter finally understood everything that he missed and was ready to take life head on.

I would love to have a book for Carey now so we can see what happens when he gets to live his own life!!

Averages out to around 4.3, but I’m rounding up to 4.5. That rating is based on my reading of the individual books, and the last one was a 5-Star for me, personally.

This is the new series box set. Books 1-3 are included.

Annie is German, and these were her first books in English. I think she did a remarkable job given she’s a relatively new, indie author.

This series - as a whole - has the kind of feels that punch you right in the heart. I was so thoroughly invested in these characters’ lives and story.

Well worth 99c for the box set!

This is my first Annie Stone story and I was happy to read this wonderful box set. These three books are beautifully written. I am not into books that having cheating in them. That and drugs are my two big triggers. BUT the way that Annie has written this book and set the characters up, it is meant to be.

I enjoyed this box set and will read more of Annie Stone.

Heroine is the hero's father's girlfriend.
She is older, but has very childish attitudes.
The hero begins the story as an idiot teenager and goes on growing throughout history, but also has shit as a brain.
Family sharing is not my thing.
The hero's father is an asshole and our heroine takes too long with him undecided about her feelings.
Very unnecessary drama and ended up dragging the story.
The heroes get very little time together and most of the story the two are separated.
I thought it was okay and it was my first reading by the author.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

…eindrucksvoller Abschluss,…

It's crazy to me when I go back and read the review that I wrote for the first book in this series, before this Box Set came out, because now all of my questions were answered, so I'm a very 5 star happy camper. However, I'm going throw that review in just for fun but remember, it was written 6/9/17, and again, with a LOT of questions left.

'I believe that this is the first book that I've read by Annie Stone, (I promise I'm not too challenged, just read a ton of books like a beast), and I did enjoy it, not to mention I wouldn't have guessed the journey I was taken on from the blurb. In no way is that bad, just wanted to state it for the record, as it was a good surprise. In a nutshell, Mackenzie is 25 years old when she meets, and falls for the much older Carter. Even as age is just a number (that's my story and I'm sticking with it), for whatever reason, I don't really read the whole older man, younger woman romance. But Carter and Mac were cute together, and yet, steamy as well. Annie Stone has a talented writing style that took me on an emotional journey that came out of left field with some of the f-bomb worthy dropping moments, especially after a few HUGE twists came out of left field with the entrance of the two teenage boys that didn't want Mac there. I still have many questions left after that ending, with the biggest one being, is there another part? And that's why I gave it a 4 star rating, as too many things that I NEED TO KNOW, are up in the air. With all of that being said, I do HIGHLY RECOMMEND this original story to ALL!"

What's funny about that is that was titles Free At Last at the time, but in this box set, it's A Fight Chance. Moving on, the second book is A Losing Battle, and this is where Hunter has left home to enlist in the military. His father is pissed, while Mac & his brother are very sad. Now, he's being made a man, making a ton of friends, but even with his new life, he isn't able to forget Mac. The drama is off the charts, with a side of big angst of course. Obviously with the whole star crossed lovers theme, the push & pull kept me on the edge of my seat, with heart hurting, and colorful metaphors singing. Of course there's another book next, so there's more angst to be had, but luckily it's in one place, so I'm not quite as dramatic as I was after the first review!

Moving on to A Saving Grace, the conclusion, and this is where it all comes to a head! Everything is bigger of course. See, Hunter has gone and done it. He's badly injured in Afghanistan, and Mac rushes to his side as quickly as she humanly can, but he refuses to see her. That just wasn't nice, but she doesn't give up on him, and the feels of this story are off the charts intense. I was emotional all over the place, not to mention a few twist to get the f-bombs dropping. My eyes threatened to leak on one hand, but on the other, I wanted to shake Hunter as well. Yeah Yeah, I know, but sometimes men need shaking to get over stubbornness at times. Not bad shaking because he was so injured, but you know. Annie Stone's talented writing style really shined through once I got over that hump of being left hanging in that first book, and I'm completely addicted to it. I have come to LOVE every frustrating moment of Mac & Hunter's journey to the end, and I cannot wait to see what she puts out in the future! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Free At Last boxed set contains the three books in this series by Annie Stone; I read them continuously in the box set, so the story was broken down in three parts.

I don't normally like books with cheating, but there was something about the blurb for this story that sucked me in and I wanted to give it a try. And I am so glad that I did. The journey that Mackenzie and Hunter take from start to finish was a real rollercoaster, but they both do so much growing, both within themselves and as a couple.

When we first meet 17 year old Hunter, he is an angry, arrogant teenager, immediately hating his dad's much-younger girlfriend just because she IS a girlfriend, and not his mother. Mackenzie is much younger than her boyfriend Carter, and at 25 is closer in age to his teenaged sons, Hunter and Carey. Both boys immediately hate her, and they treat her rather horribly. But Mac gives them reason to see her in a new light and something changes in the way that the three of them connect and interact. Carter being out of town a lot leaves the door wide open for more interactions with his sons, but things are totally on a proper level. At first.

Slowly, Hunter realizes that he's fallen in love with Mac, but that he can't have her because she is his father's girlfriend. Without getting into a plot rehash, I did think that the progression of Hunter and Mac's friendship-to-romance happens organically. We see the deterioration of her relationship with Carter, and how Hunter and Carey are always there to pick her up. The story spans several years, which makes it all the more excruciating when Hunter blocks Mac out, first because it's too painful to be around her and then -- after they share one amazing night and declare their love for one another -- because of a huge misunderstanding. You just want them to work things out and get back together, but he completely ices her out!

There are a lot of potential triggers in this story, as it covers themes of rape, depression, and attempted suicide. There are some passages and dialogue that are a bit clunky, I think due to the translation from this German author. But that didn't stop me from tearing through this entire book in a single Saturday. I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review for Sunny Shelly Reads book blog.

Free At Last Box Set by Annie Stone contains all three books in this series. A Fighting Chance by Annie Stone is the first book in a three book series tells the story of Mackenzie and Hunter. Mac meets Carter Tilman and they have this crazy insta-chemistry. He is this older , very successful businessman and they start a relationship. Fast forward a year later and things are going very well between them. Then his teenage kids move in with Carter and Mackenize. Hunter is 17 and he is the older brother. He is the most unhappy and he takes his unhappiness out on Mac. So the kids make Mac unhappy and it starts to cause dissent in her relationship. But slowly, the relationship starts changing between Mac and Hunter. There are many twists and turns in this story that end up happening between Mac and Hunter and it ends on an epic cliffhanger. I couldn’t believe what happened and everything will be picked up in “a losing battle” – The character development is huge in this story and Hunter really grows in this story while Mac is slowly dying on the inside. We get to see some serious heartbreak in this story. This book picks up where A Fighting Chance left off. Seriously, the author does an awesome job with writing the H/h POVs and have the reader rooting for them both and even the secondary characters are fantastic. Now this book ends in a cliffhanger as well and all the answers will be answered in the final book in this series “ a saving grace”. In A Saving Grace, A perfect ending to a series that I totally hearted. Mac came a long way from the first book in this series. She totally stayed true to Hunter thru some pretty rough spots and finally when she got the call that no one should get, she runs to him. Their love hits some really rough spots. ALL I can say is this will answer all questions. I do hope we get to see these characters again in a novella or a follow up story. I loved the spunk, the heart and the sassiness of Mac, the alpha, the dominating and the heart of Hunter. I even loved the secondary characters of this series and hope there could be a spin off series for this author really has an amazing way with words. This is one amazing series and I don’t want to give any spoilers or hints as to how this series ends.. You need to read to find out but trust me, it is phenomenal.

My Rating: 4.6 stars *****
“I received an advanced copy of this book from the author at no cost to me."

Sam's Story von Annie Stone is ein spin-off ihrer She Flies Serie mit Tom, Matt, Will und Thea.
