The groundbreaking ceremony at Resorts World Sentosa was attended by Minister of State for Trade & Industry, Culture, Community, and Youth, Alvin Tan, along with Resorts World Sentosa CEO Tan Hee Teck, the team of builders, and of course, the mischievous Minions.

Universal Studios Singapore is consistently rated as one of Singapore’s top attractions, and the new Minion Land is expected to lead Singapore’s post-pandemic tourism recovery.

“I am very optimistic that with the easing of restrictions and the opening of travel, there will soon be more people coming to Resorts World Sentosa, to Universal Studios Singapore, and to Minion Land when it opens in 2024,” Tan said.

The new themed zone will feature shops, restaurants, and rides, including a world’s first original ride exclusive to Universal Studios Singapore, as well as the fan-favorite motion-simulator 3D Despicable Me Minion Mayhem, where guests join Gru’s family for an unpredictable adventure after being transformed into Minions.

In addition to family-friendly attractions, Minion-themed treats, Minions merchandise, and immersive entertainment, guests visiting Minion Land will also be part of Singapore’s push for sustainable tourism as Universal Studios Singapore aims to attain the Zero Energy Building certification from the Building and Construction Authority. In fact, the new zone will be powered by renewable energy and employ smart energy systems as part of wider efforts to transform the resort into a sustainable tourism destination.

“We are excited to break ground on Universal Studios Singapore’s newest themed zone, Minion Land,” Teck said. “Resorts World Sentosa aims to bring fresh and compelling experiences to our guests through timely rejuvenation of our line-up of attractions, as we continue to welcome more international travelers with the opening of borders. Even as we embark on our expansion plans, Resorts World Sentosa stays committed to ensuring that our developments are sustainable and in sync with Singapore’s larger sustainable tourism goals.”
