Think Before You Send: Cyberbullying is Cruel

Together, students and teachers explore safety issues and the dangers of cyber-bullying and social media. Students learn you can not hide behind a screen. Your online conduct affects others – and may have serious consequences. Students think carefully about their behaviors, keep their interactions positive, and pledge to not cyberbully. They discover through project-based activities that cyberbullying truly is cruel and they need to re-think before they send.

I Use Respectful Language

Students practice using respectful language and active listening in the classroom and in public. They explore how respectful speech starts with respectful listening. Next, they use their creativity to address two common sources for disrespectful speech: media, and familiar interactions with friends. Throughout, students reflect critically on how we speak to each other and what this says about them.

Forgive So You Can Live

Students investigate emotional regulation and conflict resolution; learning how forgiveness frees us up to live our best lives. Scientific evidence demonstrates that holding on to our grievances can contribute to weight gain, diminished academic performance, heart disease, and depression. Forgiveness can reverse these conditions and restore relationships. Students deal with the past, count the cost of holding on to their anger, and consider what forgiveness can do for them – and those around them.

Students explore why making good choices is always up to them – and how personal power is the source of making the right decision.
