BORGER, Texas (KFDA) - The Natural Resources Conservation Service along with Farm Service Agency discussed their programs to help ranchers and producers rebuild.

“Where we can help farmers go back and restore fencing, do grazing plans, rest those pastures so the grass can come back, help them replace water facilities, windmills, solar panels, those type things. We help them get through these times, these tough times, so they can get their operation back going,” said Rick Harrell, resource team leader at Natural Resources Conservation Service US Department of Agriculture.

The goal is to offer technical and financial assistance to help producers recover.

“This is an investment in the future, the future of their operation, the future of these rural communities, and the future of food and nutrition security in this country. This is every bit a national defense issue that we ensure that we have our producers recovering and back on their way to helping provide some of the most safe and affordable food on the planet,” said Zach Ducheneaux, administrator at Farm Service Agency US Department of Agriculture.

Officials discuss why these programs are so important for the ag community after disaster strikes.

“Without being able to graze their land, those producers lost their source of income, they lose their means to make a living, so it’s critical that they are able to get back in those pastures as quick as possible to get their cattle back in there and keep their livelihood, their source of income,” said Harrell.
