Brieanna “Brie” Chillious Bio
My name is Brieanna Chillious, but I prefer to be referred to as Brie (like the cheese)! I am a Children's Librarian within the Pima County Public Library System (and am actually the county's first Black Children's Librarian...ever). I am currently running for one of the spots for the Tucson Unified School District's (TUSD) School Governing Board in this year's election, which is a major feat alone, especially as a former school district employee (specifically, as a former school library assistant).

We talk about the complicated history of Native Americans getting access to voting rights as well as her experiences thus far as a Native American Woman in leadership. Lastly we discuss ways that we as a collective can revolutionize how people are able to engage in civics.

She is the first Native American to hold an elected Pima County office and one of only four Native Americans to ever hold a county-level office in Arizona.

Now a civil servant working on justice policy in Sacramento, Kevin is promoting a measure he authored called the Representation of the People Act, which would transform California into a multiparty democracy capable of representing the multitudes of our identities.

Metabolizing Black Rage
Beneath The Surface Metabolizing Black Rage (Season 2, Episode 10)
In this episode of Beneath The Surface I will be reflecting on and thinking through if Black Folks have had proper ways to metabolize our rage. I am thinking about this in light of the events that have happened this past week with a white man who murdered two people and injured another at a BLM Protest was found not guilty of his crimes. I reflect on what it may mean and the impact for Black Folks to continuously experience injustice and some ways that we may be able to find the will and desire to continue to imagine and fight for better versions of the future and the world for the liberation of Black People.

Reactional Critiques
Reactionary Critiques
In this episode I am going to discuss a pattern that I'm noticing about how we are critiquing Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez AKA AOC and how that doesn't sit right with my spirit. I will break down how I feel like the media skews our ability to stay focused on what and who we also may need to be critiquing in our political system. I also discuss ways that I think we can move away from falling into this trap and stay vigilant not to lose sight of the bigger picture to ensure that we are preserving our energy and critiquing people and things correctly and always with nuance.
