Pamplin College of Business professors Tabitha JamesPaul Lowry, and Viswanath Venkatesh are among the most published researchers in leading information systems journals, according to recently published data.

Rankings found on the site aisresearchrankings.org shows that Lowry, an Eminent Scholar and the Suzanne Parker Thornhill Chair Professor in Business Information Technology, was the most published researcher in 2023 among the eight leading information systems journals.

Otherwise known as the basket of eight, these journals include the European Journal of Information Systems, Information Systems Journal, Information Systems Research, Journal of Information Technology, Journal of the Association for Information Systems, Journal of Management Information Systems, Journal of Strategic Information Systems, and Management Information Systems Quarterly.

For the five years from 2019-23, Venkatesh, an Eminent Scholar and Verizon Chair of Business Information Technology, was ranked as the top researcher under a straight count, where only the first author is given credit for a paper.

James, the R.B. Pamplin Professor in Business Information Technology, was ranked third for the same five-year period using the same methodology.

The data is based on the Association for Information Systems list of high-quality journals. The site provides rankings of authors and universities in the basket of eight leading information systems journals.

“These rankings are a matter of great pride to the Department of Business Information Technology and Pamplin, as the success and visibility of our faculty in high-quality journal publications is a key ingredient to the reputation of a research business school,” said Venkatesh.
