Marwa Zafarullah

Marwa Zafarullah is a Postdoctoral Scholar at the MIND Institute, University of California Davis (UC Davis). Her research is focused on the development of the biomarker for the early diagnosis and progression of neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative disorders.

Dr. Zafarullah did her Bachelor’s in Science from Pakistan and graduated first in her class with the CGPA 3.96/4.00. After passing a competitive examination, she won a scholarship of worth $100,000 under the AIP program of USAID to pursue a master’s degree program in the USA. Marwa earned her Master’s and Ph.D. in Integrative Genetics and Genomics at the University of California, Davis USA with Designated Emphasis in Biotechnology (DEB) and the Designated Emphasis in Translational Research (DETR). For her research she was awarded the prestigious Emmy Werner and Stanley Jacobsen Fellowship of worth $50,000.

Marwa’s experience in Diversity, Student issues, and Quality education. In Summer 2017 she held two student sessions in Pakistan regarding prospects of Agriculture and scholarship hunting that had been attended on average by 400 students. At UC Davis she worked directly with the Chancellors on Chancellor’s Graduate and Professional Student Advisory Board (CGPSA) and represented the 5000+ students from the platform of the Graduate Student Association (GSA). She solely organized the career development series with the invited speakers from all different professions. Currently she is serving on the board of UC DAVIS Post-Doctoral Association and among 5 who are organizing the biggest Research Symposium (PRS 2022).

Dr. Zafarullah had been invited to talk about Science and Genetics, life at Graduate school and Diversity Issues. She organized 4th Annual UCD Integrative Genetics and Genomics Colloquium 2017 and 6th annual UCD Plant Science Symposium-17. She was a Graduate Student Panelist for International Graduate Student Orientation-17, Women of Color Graduate Panelist and served as Student Chair at Plant Biology Retreat. She was also one of the significant guest speakers at the Center for Advanced Studies Project Launching Ceremony in UC Davis. In appreciation of her services, she has been awarded the “Outstanding service award of a year” by Integrative Genetics and Genomics graduate group and nominated Aggie Hero 2019 by Chancellor at UCDAVIS.
