I’ve been pretty unhappy with FNC for some time now.  However, tonight I tuned in to hear what Tucker Carlson had to say.

He made some really good points.

I sincerely hope that people will listen to this or read the transcript before reacting.

I’ll have the moderation queue on to keep the knuckle-head stuff down.

Here is the transcript (my emphases and comments):

Amid the bombardment of images of what took place at the U.S. Capitol Wednesday, too little time has been spent thinking about why it happened. Anyone who is trying to understand the significance of what’s going on right now ought to watch video of the last moments of Ashli Babbit, the woman who was shot and killed in the chaos.

Footage, which can easily be found online, shows Babbit standing in a hallway right off the House floor with an American flag tied around her neck. The scene around her is chaotic. People are bumping into each other, yelling, trying to get through the door into the chamber. Suddenly, with no warning, there is gunfire. You hear a shot and Babbit falls. People in the hallway scream. The camera closes in on her face. Babbit looks stunned. She’s staring straight ahead. You can see that she knows she’s about to die, which she did.

So what can we learn from this? It’s not enough to call it a tragedy. Imagine for a second learning that was your daughter. The last time you spoke to her, she was heading to Washington for a political rally. Now, she’s dead. You’ll never talk to her again. That’s what we’re watching, and we may be watching a lot more of it in the coming days.

Political violence begets political violence. That is an iron law. We have to be against that, no matter who commits the violence or under what pretext, no matter how many self-interested demagogues assure us the violence is justified or necessary. We have a duty to oppose all of this, not simply because political violence kills other people’s children, but because in the end it doesn’t work.

No good person will live a happier life because that woman was killed in the hallway of the Capitol today. [NB] So our only option, as a practical matter, is to fix what is causing this in the first place.

[Pay attention…] You may have nothing in common with the people on the other side of the country (increasingly, you probably don’t), but you’re stuck with them. The idea that groups of Americans will somehow break off into separate peaceful nations of like-minded citizens, is a fantasy. The two hemispheres of this country are inseparably intertwined, like conjoined twins. Neither can leave without killing the other. As horrifying as this moment is, we have no option but to make it better, to gut it out. [A good point.]

The second thing to consider, and it’s related to the first, is why Ashli Babbit went to the rally in the first place. She bore no resemblance to the angry children we have seen wrecking our cities in recent months — pasty, entitled nihilists dressed in black, setting fires and spray painting slogans on statues. She looked pretty much like everyone else.

So why was she there? We ought to think about that. If you want to fix it, you have to think about that.

The only reason this country is rich and successful is because for hundreds of years, we have enjoyed a stable political system. The only reason that system is stable is because it’s a democracy, responsive to voters. [There it is.]

Democracy is a pressure relief valve. [NB] As long as people sincerely believe they can change things by voting, they stay calm. They don’t burst into the House chamber. They talk and they organize and they vote. But the opposite is also true if people begin to believe that their democracy is fraudulent, that voting is a charade, that the system is rigged and it’s run in secret by a small group of powerful, dishonest people who are acting in their own interests. Then, God knows what could happen.

Actually, we do know what could happen, because it’s happening right now. It’s happened in countless other countries over countless centuries. And the cycle is always the same because human nature never changes.

“Listen to us!” scream the population.

“Shut up and do what you’re told,” say their leaders.

In the face of dissent, the first instinct of illegitimate leadership is to crack down on the population, but crackdowns never make it better. They always make the country more volatile and more dangerous. The people in charge rarely understand that. They don’t want to, they don’t care to learn or listen because all of this conversation is a referendum on them and their leadership. So they clamp down harder.

This is the Romanov program, and it ends badly every single time. But that doesn’t mean they won’t try it again. Of course they will, because it’s their nature. It’s how we got here in the first place.

Millions of Americans sincerely believe the last election was fake. You can dismiss them as crazy. You can call them conspiracy theorists. You can kick them off Twitter. But that won’t change their minds. Rather than trying to change their minds, to convince them and reassure them that the system is real, that democracy works — which you would do if you cared about the country or the people who live here — our new leaders will try to silence them.

What happened Wednesday will be used by the people taking power to justify stripping you of the rights you were born with as an American: [Rights all people have because they are images of God.] Your right to speak without being censored, your right to assemble, to not be spied upon, to make a living, and to defend your family.

These are the most basic and ancient freedoms that we have there. They’re why we live here in the first place. They’re why we’re proud to be Americans. They’re what make us different, and they’re all now in peril.

When thousands of your countrymen storm the Capitol building, you don’t have to like it. We don’t. You can be horrified by the violence, and we are.

[NB] But if you don’t bother to pause and learn a single thing from your citizens storming your Capitol building, then you’re a fool, you lack wisdom and self-awareness, and you have no place running a country. We got to this sad, chaotic day for a reason.

I think that Tucker’s points are important.

  • Human nature doesn’t change.
  • Political violence spawns more violence.
  • Leaders often are deaf and blind to problems in front of them.
  • We are stuck with each other.
  • If we don’t take steps to work things out, this is going to go badly.

What happened today was likened by one commentator on Twitter, which I posted under another item, to the Reichstag Fire of 1933.

His reference made a chill run down my spine.  It was government transition time in weary, economically battered Germany.  A couple weeks before Hitler had become Chancellor.   Some one set fire to the parliament building.  Hitler used the incident as a pretext for the suspension of civil liberties and a massive purge of the Nazi rival Communists.  That purge resulted in the Nazi Party taking complete control.   Moreover, some historians think that the Reichstag Fire was a “false flag” operation, actually perpetrated by the Nazis to given them an excuse to attack their rivals the Communists.

Now there are some reports that the pro-Trump crowd which went to the Capitol was infiltrated by Antifa thugs.  They possibly were the ones to flared the violence.  Think about it.  If you are an Antifia-type, isn’t at what you would do?

Also, given that everyone knew there would be a rally today, how is it that the DC and Capitol police weren’t somewhat better deployed?

The violence of today – false flag or not – is sure to be the pretext that the powerful Left will use to crack down on our freedoms.

Pray for commonsense to prevail.   One of the observations I have made over the last few weeks is that if people do not have confidence in election integrity, then just about the only recourse people will think they have is wide-spread insurrection, which is something to horrifying to contemplate.

Even as we should give some thought about preparing for the next months, let’s keep calm, particularly in arguments about this dire situation.

    What a sad day for America. Sad especially for this woman and the others that died, sad for their families, sad for all of us. That should be everyone’s reaction. Not vindication, not vengeance. But sadness. What have we done with our precious freedoms, O Lord? What use have we made of the blessings of liberty? There should be investigation into this election. Yes. Fine. And it should be Joe Biden demanding this most vociferously if he wants to heal our country. Especially if he doesn’t think the fraud is real.

    But there needs to be mourning first. Not just for today, but for who we have become and how far we have wandered from the Lord. I would hope that the bishops would call for days of mourning or days of repentance. But, lacking that, we can call ourselves to that. Maybe everyone on here could offer up a few extra days of fasting between now and 1/20.

    Tucker just described the vast majority of our political class and the bureaucratic legions that support them.

    I don’t know what the answer is. Tucker says, “The idea that groups of Americans will somehow break off into separate peaceful nations of like-minded citizens, is a fantasy.” and I agree with him. I think it’s the only sane, peaceful way forward, but I also believe it’s a one in a bazillion chance of actually happening. Way too much money, power, influence, and corporate and financial interests involved to ever allow that to happen. I also do not believe any kind of actual insurrection is a solution because a leaderless insurrection of a non-unified people could only be a catastrophe of the highest order. We (American patriots, that is) are a leaderless people. Trump, for all his fine qualities and his not-very-good qualities, is not a real leader and clearly does not want that kind of responsibility.

    But this bothers me. Tucker says “You may have nothing in common with the people on the other side of the country (increasingly, you probably don’t), but you’re stuck with them. . . . we have no option but to make it better, to gut it out.” In my lifetime that has meant one and only one thing: traditional Christian Americans must compromise their beliefs to the Progressive, atheist, socialist side. Every time. Every. Single. Time. It’s gone so far towards the Progressives that anyone who believes what traditional Christians believed only 15 years ago (heck, only 5 years ago) is considered a hateful bigot. If you believe what Christians believed 100 years ago, you’re “literally worse than a Nazi.”

    It’s likely a moot point. Since election fraud appears to be the way forward, you can bet the Dems take Congress. You can bet that Stacy Abrams will be the next Governor of California. You can also bet that COVID lockdowns are here to stay. Stand by for the Great Reset.

    I just wish folks could understand that THIS is what modern warfare looks like. It’s not about bombs or tanks or troops or even, I hate to admit, Naval superiority. We’re currently, right now, AT WAR with China, and China is cleaning our clock. Trust me, they’re having a good old time right now over there at CCP HQ.

    Individual souls matter more than causes or movements or ideology.

    Elected officials let riots run unabated over the summer. The threat of more riots caused many officials to not take action when election fraud was apparent. The mob won. When mobs are allowed to win then other mobs form. Yesterday’s riot is a direct result of the success of the riots this past summer. The people that allowed the riots are directly responsible for what happened at our Capitol.

    I agree with almost all of what Tucker said. However, I disagree with the some of his crackdown logic. People that destroy other people’s property, whether it’s personal property like a store or public property like a park statue (or legislative building), should be cracked down upon. It should be done swiftly, proportionally and unapologetically.

    [But, for the most part, they won’t be because they serve the larger aims of those who have acquired nearly all the power. They want chaos. They’ll use anarchy to break the bonds of society. Then they will reshape things according to their imposition of WILL.]

    There’s a lot of analysis that will take place. But one thing appears clear at this point, we got played by the Left. We played checkers, they played chess, and they worked together.
    That was Antifa that broke in the capitol, and most likely that was orchestrated by the Left. That is why the minataur guy (who wore the same horns and outfit in AZ in June) was able to sit at Pelosi’s desk and get that shot seen round the world, America has gone nuts y’all. And the people, so thoroughly brainwashed into believing liberty is not as important as nice, went home.
    That young lady’s death was unnecessary, and heartbreaking. Why did the capitol police do that.

    Father, with all due respect,
    The Uniparty of the U.S. would not care if citizens were stacked up like cordwood in the streets as long as there were enough of us to keep the graft flowing. They have made it clear by their actions that they have no better nature to appeal to.
    Whatever one may think of President Trump, he has been the great un-masker.
    Barring Divine rescue, our choices are some form of resistance or domestic slave life. There are varying degrees of the first, from civil disobedience to full out violence. With the Covid restrictions we have seen that a large part of our population would be amenable to a life dictated by the whims of government.
    Everyone will have to make these decisions prompted by conscience.

    What’s happening in the United States is sad but in no way unique. Here in South Africa violent protests and riots are widespread and have even become the preferred method of political expression for some, such as the Far Left EFF. People here don’t trust their institutions either, and the disconnect between our political elite and the average ordinary South African is so absolute they might as well be living on different planets. This polarization is a worldwide phenomenon and by no means unique to the US. I will offer America my prayers, for we are more or less in the same boat.

    Like you, Father, I read this piece and was somewhat impressed with Mr. Carlson, despite no longer thinking FN is a place to go anymore.

    A few thoughts of my own: was not the Revolutionary War political violence? Where would we be had we eschewed violence then? If votes aren’t being legally cast nor counted, what teeth are there for enforcing law when those tasked with enforcing it don’t do so? For those Congressmen objecting to electors at noon but not 9pm, what changed? Were the electors any more legal? At what point does political violence become self-defense in the face of a monopolistic leftist government?

    I’m asking my questions to see if someone would like to chime in and have a civil discussion with any of them. Those are the questions I’m wrestling with right now.

    Looks more like QAnon supporters- the exAF women who died looks like a sympathizer from her social media and fur boy has been id’d as a QAnon type from Az (Jake Angeli).
    There are conflicting reports but everytime a protest (ie riot) goes south from a PR perspective the inciting side blames a “false flag” operation- like many libs did with the summer riots. So hard to know.

    rhig090v, you are indeed on to something. Everyone seems to think that using our feet — up to and including force — to prevent an evil government is never an option (“we must have peace at all costs!”).

    But why should temporary peace be the absolute goal when it only ratifies long-term rejection against God and the rights He has given us?

    Those who totally condemn what happened in Washington could be viewed as the descendants of the Tories who supported Britain back in the 1700s. Opposite them are those who could be viewed as the descendants of people who say, “When in the course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another…”

    I don’t know; I’m just saying that we can’t be so quick to say that protests such as that of January 6 are always to be totally condemned.

    First off, I’m no Star Wars fanatic, though I did enjoy the first three movies. That said, I have always thought, even long before all this garbage, that Princess Leia said it best: “The more you tighten your grip, the more systems will slip through your fingers.”

    They can deny it until the cows come home, but the Natural Law is real, and it is quite literally imprinted on us, at the level of animal instinct. Just as abused children know, deep in their hearts, that this is NOT how it’s supposed to be (believe me, I know), people who have always lived under tyrants also know that their natural rights are being denied. Never mind that they have never even heard such things mentioned; they just, somehow, KNOW. Sadly, because man is fallen, the frustrations all too often are going to result in violence.     I wrote this last night as I went to bed in response to several people who were checking on my safety

    We had, by my estimate, approximately 1.5 – 2 million people gathered peacefully at the Ellipse.
    We were all unarmed as DC outlaws weapons.
    Our protest involved permits for the Ellipse, Freedom Plaza and the Capitol.
    The president spoke, encouraging us to pressure our representatives to do the right thing and send the determination of the dueling electors to their State legislatures as requested.
    After his talk we walked to Capitol Hill for the next part of the rally.
    My brother had joined us and we agreed to head to the Metro and back to Manassas once we reached Capitol Hill.
    The Patriots were gathered on the west side of the Capitol with the police in watchful attendance. The mood was vigilant and determined but bright.
    We said goodbye to some friends we had met and headed home.
    Afterwards we began to hear about protestors entering the Capitol and the building being locked down.
    At that point, the live feed from the west side of the Capitol showed a peaceful gathering of protestors and police as had been all day.
    Then things shifted. It seems that at least one bus of Antifa thugs impersonating Trump supporters began to stir things up.
    In the ensuing panic, a member of building security shot and killed an unarmed woman who was trying to enter the building but otherwise doing no mischief.
    Things escalated quickly. Capitol police in riot gear supplemented by elements of the National Guard set about dispersing the crowd both inside and outside the building.
    In the meantime, the various news outfits took the occasion to pour fuel on the flames, calling the entry a “breach” and the rally a “siege”, asserting that those entering the Capitol were all Trump supporters who had been incited to violence by the President. Nothing could be further from the truth.

    Rhig, self defense needs to be ordered to the object to be achieved. The legality or illegality of the last election is almost irrelevant because there is nothing to be done that would actually achieve the outcome desired. Why does our Lord rebuke Peter when he cuts off the centurion’s ear? Because all force is wrong? No. Because force that cannot achieve the end desired is fundamentally rash and unhelpful.

    Storming the castle wasn’t the answer. They’d have been better off praying on the steps of the capitol. More would have been accomplished.

    Fifteen years ago, I (not to pat myself on my back) began to tell people that “the Democrats were Communist, the Establishment Republicans were Corporate Socialists and the Conservatives were incompetent”. As of this moment, nothing has changed in my mind. Remember how Barry Goldwater was tarnished in his 1964 Presidential campaign. Remember how Sen. Joe McCarthy was treated in the late 1940s thru the early 1950s. He had a Senate committee to weed out Communists from the Government and entertainment fields. He died a broken man. What has been happening to Donald Trump is a continuation of the same; it is not anything new. The Communist Party was formed in 1919 and with Hillary’s expected election in 2019; they would have been able to claim a bloodless coup. Everything overturning our morality, education and religious standards has been due to their efforts ever since the 1960s and the students’ sit-ins at the various colleges/universities. People also need to learn what the strategy of “The Big Lie” is and how the Communist (formerly the Democrat Party) Party has become expert in it’s use.
    The Blessed Mother has been warning us via a multitude of Apperitions that God was going to unleash his anger for our dis-obedience. Whether this is His reaction to our inaction or not, may or may not be the case; but, we need to learn our faith ourselves via the catechism whether the old Baltimore Catechism or the newer 1997 Catechism. We need to be able, as best as we can, to distinguish the true from the false. No question that this is easier said then done.
    Fortunately, we have Fr. Z who is kind of our Rush Limbaugh.

    I am tending to agree with “philosphicallyfrank” above. The plan has been in place for years and they were so sure Hillary would win. Now the “Great Reset” is spoken of openly. Dear Abp. Vigano sees that also. The Blessed Mother spoke in one apparition of a time “when Communism returns”. Some form of it controls the press, education, the courts, schools, etc. and now our government (so called socialists). Keep in mind also the motto, “Order out of chaos”.

    The only remedy is continuous prayer, but I must admit I worry about our children and grandchildren. Every day I re-consecrate all of us to Jesus, Mary, and Joseph!

    I loathe the admission, but Fr Z has nailed the issue firmly to the door… as usual. The sanity of the comments give me hope.

    To me it seems our government is a mess because we are a mess, we don’t want the blessings of liberty but rather the licentiousness of sodom. We can’t have the former while grasping at the latter. We deserve a smackdown for the way most of us have been carrying on for the last 100 years, brace yourselves because here it comes.

    I needed Tucker’s video last night and it made a difference.
    I also listened to Bill Whittle earlier today: he made some CRUCIAL points.

    1. The difference between an army and a mob is discipline. Regardless of the numbers of agitators from either Qanon and/or Antifa/BLM, the conservatives actually walked into the trap. During the Obama Adminstration/Tea Party protests, discipline HELD: participants stayed peaceful. Yesterday, We gave the left (the owners of the megaphones) what they’ve wanted from us for over 10 years. I don’t like it (truthfully, it was mostly peaceful, and there wasn’t arson, and looting nor did the participants shoot anyone) we allowed them to write the narrative complete with video that we are violent, seditious, renegades. Regardless of the provocation, we cannot afford to make these kinds of errors.

    2. No human being is going to save us. WE, each one of us need to commit to change. On the spiritual level, what would happen if we committed to one spiritual act of reparation to God or His Mother per day? What would happen if committed to saying 5 psalms a day ? I thought of Abraham, Lot and Sodom and Gemorah: God would have saved the cities if there had been 10 righteous men. Where can each of us do better in our relationship with God ? If we are engaged in spiritual warfare (and I believe we are) than we need to act accordingly. I know I can and need to do better. And honestly, if we were to save 500,000 babies, that would be a VERY good start. It may not be perfect, but I thought our tradition teaches that we are not expected to reach perfection by our own efforts: our job is to do the work. The left has used an incremental, long view approach and it WORKED: we need to start using that same tactic.

    3. On the political level, Soros and his allies spent a lot of time, money and labor hours putting people into place from the bottom up. We need to go out and start putting CONSTITUTIONAL Conservatives into political office from the ground up. We need to get involved. And if possible, we need to consider running for office.

    4. We need to read our foundational documents: starting with the Constitution and going into the Federalist Papers. We need to read and know our history: BUY THE BOOKS if you can afford them.

    We need to understand some basic economics. We cannot continue printing money and not expect to suffer consequences of that. Our federal government is doing WAY too much and we need to have that brass tacks moment when we set our priorities. If we want to curb the corruption, we need to cut the size and scope of the Federal Government. In other words, people need to understand what RENT SEEKING IS.

    Finally, and most importantly the Biden Administration will do everything they can to shut us down for an extended period of time. The economic and financial damage could be extraordinary: do what you can to prepare for this but also, consider what you can do for your community in your parish. Now is the time to get involved (to the extent of your ability) in St. Vincent De Paul as well as other options. Local parish has a food pantry where people can drive up and take out what they need. Every little bit helps.

    That’s a good point and helpful. I guess a follow up question would be, how directly does that ordering need to be? In your good example, St. Peter’s actions seem to be directly against the will of God, since the Passion was willed to happen. Not to defend or condemn what happened yesterday, but what if it served to excite the senses of good people, enabling more of them to stand against legislative actions that would hurt the unborn, to cherry-pick and example. Under that circumstance, it could be argued that what happened yesterday was indirectly ordered to its object.

    I would be enraged by Wednesday’s events. Except that one group of another have been inflicting violence for one excuse or another since 1992. They’ve grown more frequent in the past few years; various groups simply cannot stand the idea that Hillary lost in 2016. So, the capitol building suffered an invasion. …I saw some of the video from when Justice Kavanaugh went through confirmation hearings. I don’t recall the media having a hernia then, except to vaguely justify the hooligans.
    If we’re fools for failing to condemn violence, I fear we’re a solid 30 years overdue.
    I cannot truthfully grow angry about Wednesday. Disgusted, sure, yet not angry. We all say we want peace. Yet actions speak volumes. I can’t condone violence, yet I’d say the Left has thrown a large number of punches, especially these last few years. They have little cause for horror if the Right chooses to throw one back.
