The last minute rush of a holiday can easily push our budgets and brains to the brink. Instead of focusing on the meaning of the season and our family, we end up at a big box retailer frantically pushing a cart. Typically, we overbuy and overspend in these situations. If you find yourself in this boat on Easter, slow down. There are plenty of ways to save money and time while having a meaningful day.
“Boil” Your Eggs In the Oven
Space on the stovetop can be a premium when you’re fixing a big family holiday meal. To save space AND save yourself from making a mess with a pot that boils over, choose to “boil” your eggs in the oven. Simply preheat the oven to 325, place eggs in a muffin tin, and cook for 20-30 minutes. If your oven isn’t as hot as mine, you might want to bump up the temperature to 350.
Use Temporary Tattoos to Decorate Your Eggs
No fancy dye kit? No problem. Find some temporary tattoos in your kids crafts. We always seem to have several on hand. Following the directions for transferring the tattoos to skin, use them to decorate the eggs instead.
Marble Eggs With Food Coloring and Shaving Cream
Another dye kit alternative is using shaving cream and food coloring to create a marble effect on your eggs. I followed and love A Thrifty Mom’s tips for creating Swirl Easter Eggs. By the way, if you’re concerned about not being able to eat eggs rolled in shaving cream, she says you can do the same thing with Cool Whip!
Have a Glow in the Dark Egg Hunt
Did your egg hunt get rained out? Have no fear, turn out the lights and have a fun after hours or indoor glow-in-the-dark egg hunt. Simply activate glow sticks and place them inside of the eggs.
