Brief History:

We are excited to share with you the incredible journey of the Alpha Community Foundation of Oklahoma as we strive to make a positive impact on the lives of our community members. Our current project involves the transformation of a vacant Oklahoma City Public School building into the Garden Oaks Community Center.

This visionary project aims to provide a wide range of facilities and resources for our community. The Garden Oaks Community Center located at 3401 NE 16th Street in Oklahoma City, will feature a community garden, a community library, a computer lab, and even a business incubator space. Additionally, we will have conference rooms available for use by community organizations, as well as classrooms dedicated to mentoring, tutoring, and enrichment programs focused on STEM education. The center will also boast a recreation area specifically designed for neighborhood students and a versatile multipurpose room where we can offer free activities for community members, such as martial arts, dance, music, and exercise classes.

Our mission is guided by four core pillars: civic engagement, educational outreach, health and wellness, and community service. The Garden Oaks Community Center will serve as the vibrant hub for activities centered around these pillars. Our primary focus is to address the needs of the historically underserved community in northeast Oklahoma City, providing them with valuable resources, opportunities, and support.

Since January 2021, our collective efforts have been met with incredible success. Through generous grant funding, community donations, and engaging fundraising events, we have raised over $700,000. These funds have been instrumental in bringing us closer to our goal of completing phase one construction, which is set to be finished later this summer. Once complete, a portion of the community center will be open to the public, ready to cater to the diverse needs of the residents of northeast Oklahoma City.

Our dedication to creating positive change is evident through the various programs and activities we have already initiated. We have provided over 400 hours of mentoring and tutoring at John Marshall Middle School, organized a Health and Wellness Fair that attracted over 150 participants, hosted lively Trunk or Treat Festival with over 350 attendees, and conducted a successful Back-to-School Drive, giving away 250 backpacks filled with supplies. Furthermore, our impactful food drive has fed over 100 families in need.
