Patrick Stanton enters his fourth season as the Head Cross Country Coach and fifth season leading the Wheeling Track & Field programs in 2023-24.

2022-23 continued the success of both programs, with two National Championship appearances headlining the feat. During Cross Country season, both the men's and women's teams saw growth on the course, with the women finishing 4th at the 2022 MEC Cross Country Championships. Under his watch, three Cardinals earned All-MEC honors, with Savanaugh Anderson, Caroline Fodor, and Sydney Hambel all taking home honors for their efforts.

In Track season, the Cardinals had two more National Championship appearances, with Moses Koroma and Julian Griffin qualifying for Hurdles during indoor season and Andrew Taylor qualifying for High Jump during outdoor season. The Cardinals finished the 2022-23 season with over 15 individual MEC Champions across both indoor and outdoor season and a total of 17 All-Region athletes between the two sports. The biggest moment came during the Outdoor Track & Field national championships, when Andrew Taylor finished third in the nation in High Jump.

2022 was a big year for Stanton as he led two NCAA Division II National Tournament runs for both Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field. He helped Jabez Reeves qualify for the 60-Meter Dash in Indoor season and the 100-Meter Dash in Outdoor season while helping Andrew Taylor qualifying for the High Jump in Outdoor season and Brian Vandusen qualifying in Indoor Season. He led the Men's team to a second place finish at the 2022 MEC Outdoor Track & Field Championships and helped Reeves and Taylor get named All-Americans.

On the Cross Country side, he led a young Wheeling team that saw Savanaugh Anderson earn All-MEC Second Team honors, the first All-Conference honors of her career.

Stanton led a Wheeling team that won the MEC Championship on the women's side, and finished third overall on the men's side during the 2020-2021 season. After the season was very much uncertain at the beginning of the year, Stanton pulled the unit together and had a team that consisted of both veterans and newcomers ready to go. For his efforts, Stanton was named the MEC Coach of the Year for the 2020-2021 season.

The Cardinal women's team took third place and the men took fifth at the 2020 Mountain East Indoor Championships. Liz Fleming won both the shot put and weight throw at the event and was later named the MEC Field Athlete of the Year, while Danielle Stewart qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships and earned All-America honors in the pole vault, before the season came to a halt due to COVID-19.

Stanton took the reins of the program following the 2019 cross country season after serving as an assistant under Hall of Fame Coach Ricky Moore for three years. The 2015 Wheeling graduate and Fairmont native was a scoring member of three conference champion cross country teams and earned first team all-conference honors in both 2012 and 2013.

Stanton also spent the 2015-16 season as the Head Cross Country and Track & Field Coach at Salem University, where he built the programs from the ground up.

Stanton graduated with a B.A. in English from the University in 2015.
