AEM Assets provides a robust platform for organizing and managing assets. But how are these assets used? If all they do is sit in AEM, they aren’t all that useful. Well, for starters, assets and their additions can be easily downloaded from AEM. Select one or more assets, folders, collections, or combination thereof and tap the download button. This brings up a dialogue allowing you to tailor the download itself. Ranging from the name of the download zip file, the organization of assets, to which binaries to include. Let’s create two downloads using different options. The first will be a download of two different folders. And the second will be just a few ad hoc assets from a single folder.
The first zip file, which was used to download the two folders in AEM, has a folder for each of those AEM folders. Clicking into them that AEM folder’s assets and their additions are included. Keep in mind, for this download we choose to not create separate folders for each asset. And who include both the asset, which means the original rendition, as well as all other renditions. And, here, we can see the contents is organized in just that way.
The second zip file is of the ad hoc selection of individual assets, when downloading this we chose to create separate folders per asset and only include the asset or, in other words, only include the original rendition and no other renditions. Here, we see the structure puts each asset into its own folder containing the file that is the original rendition of the asset.
Now that we have these files on our file system these assets can now be used by any other application or shared with other people.
AEM provides many more advanced ways of accessing and using assets that won’t be explored here but they include secure link sharing via email or other communication channels. Using AEM desktop app to directly access AEM assets from a local computer, direct integration with AEM assets and creative cloud applications such as Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign via Adobe Asset Link. Distributing assets via the web using Adobe’s Brand Portal or Asset Share implementations. Publishing assets to AEM’s dynamic media service for distribution and delivery. And, of course, publishing assets and using them on AEM sites or to power other web properties. -
