Installing the LockDown Browser

In order to take a LockDown exam you must first have the SOLE LockDown Browser installed. To install the SOLE LockDown Browser follow these steps:

  1. Select the correct platform and begin the download by clicking the link.

  2. Double click the downloaded file.
  3. A “User Account Control” window will pop up asking if you would like to allow the program to make changes to the computer. Click “Yes.”
  4. Click "Next" and then click “Install.” When it is finished installing click the “Finish” button.
  5. You will now be able to choose an exam and click the green “Launch Exam” button to begin an exam within the SOLE LockDown Browser. The SOLE LockDown Browse will launch when entering a secure exam.

Minimum System Requirement

  • The Lockdown Browser must be downloaded on a desktop or laptop computer. It is NOT compatible with tablets or Chromebooks.
  • Windows: Windows 8 and Windows 10 (Windows 10S is not compatible)
  • Mac: macOS 10.12 to 11.1+

Installing the SOLE LockDown Browser from a Course

To install the SOLE LockDown Browser from a course follow these steps:

  1. In SOLE enter the correct course from the SOLE Homepage.
  2. In the course access the Exams tool from within Assessment.
  3. If there is an exam that requires the LockDown Browser, then a link will be available at the top of the page to install the browser:

    “Click here to download and install SOLE Lockdown Browser (Windows or Mac).”

  4. Begin the download by clicking this link.
  5. Double click the downloaded file.
  6. A “User Account Control” window will pop up asking if you would like to allow the program to make changes to the computer. Click “Yes.”
  7. Click "Next" and then click “Install.” When it is finished installing click the “Finish” button.
  8. You will now be able to choose an exam and click the green “Launch Exam” button to begin an exam within the SOLE LockDown Browser. The SOLE LockDown Browser will launch when entering a secure exam.
