Paper towel rolls, golf ball or marble
Access to clean water is a human need. Whether you live in an urban or rural setting, engineers and city planners must consider how to get clean water to everyone. The use of pipelines in one way to accomplish that task. Pipelines are useful for transporting water for drinking or irrigation over long distances.
Students will design a “water” pipeline from paper towel rolls that transports a golf ball (water) across the classroom. Set up protected ecosystems in the classroom that students must avoid.
Students will test their pipeline, seek improvements, and make adjustments.
Students will share what they learned with their classmates and at home.
Research how your local community uses water pipelines as well as other areas of the world.
