The University of Toledo has submitted its assurance argument to the Higher Learning Commission as part of the accreditation process.
The assurance argument, also known as a self-study, is the narrative and evidence to support how well the University is meeting the five criteria and core components set forth by the Higher Learning Commission, which is institutional accrediting body that comprehensively evaluates the University.
The criteria for accreditation includes:
• Mission — The institution’s mission is clear and articulated publicly; it guides the institution’s operations.
• Integrity: Ethical and Responsible Conduct — The institution acts with integrity; its conduct is ethical and responsible.
• Teaching and Learning: Quality, Resources and Support — The institution provides quality education, wherever and however its offerings are delivered.
• Teaching and Learning: Evaluation and Improvement — The institution demonstrates responsibility for the quality of its educational programs, learning environments and support services, and it evaluates their effectiveness for student learning through processes designed to promote continuous improvement.
• Institutional Effectiveness, Resources and Planning — The institution’s resources, structures, processes and planning are sufficient to fulfill its mission, improve the quality of its educational offerings, and respond to future challenges and opportunities.
The assurance argument document, which was submitted Oct. 10, is available on UToledo’s Higher Learning Commission Visit website.
In September, the University encouraged students to participate in the Higher Learning Commission’s student opinion survey as part of the accreditation process. A summary of that input was provided to the peer review team representing the Higher Learning Commission that will visit campus for the next step in the accreditation process.
The site team visit will take place Nov. 8 and 9. Details about the visit will be provided as they become available.
UToledo has been accredited by the Higher Learning Commission since 1922.
