County Improves Bike Lanes and Traffic Flow on Pensacola Beach

Escambia County recently implemented a number of improvements to Pensacola Beach designed to enhance traffic flow and improve mobility for cyclists and pedestrians.

"These projects were completed at a relatively low cost, but we think they will still have a big impact on moving people and moving cars in a safer manner," said Chairman and District 4 Commissioner Robert Bender. "We are excited to have these improvements, and I hope citizens enjoy them when they come visit Pensacola Beach whether it be by car, on foot or by bike."

A number of improvements have been completed over the past few months including:

• Installing a delineated 4-foot wide bike lane and 5-foot wide walking path for pedestrians along Fort Pickens Blvd. and the Bob Sikes Bridge. These lanes connect into the Pensacola Beach Blvd. bike lane which will now allow pedestrians to safely walk or bike from the Bob Sikes Bridge to Pensacola Beach.
• Increasing access and parking by the construction of Beach Access Road to connect the Grand Marlin area to the Quietwater parking lot.
• Extending the right turn lane towards Fort Pickens by 800 feet to allow for better traffic flow.
• Adjusting exit of the Casino Beach parking lot by installing a dedicated right turn lane to improve outflow of traffic.
• Installing a U-turn on the south side of the toll plaza.
