There was a time when tribal leaders reported that their children were missing. They had been taken from the homes that they knew and placed in non-Indigenous homes. Children were taken in droves. Learn how the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA) came into existence, and how it is currently jeopardized by a Supreme Court Case that threatens tribal sovereignty.

Heather Bruegl is a citizen of the Oneida Nation of Wisconsin and first-line descendent Stockbridge Munsee. Her research comprises numerous topics related to American history, legacies of colonization, and Indigeneity, including the Dakota War of 1812, the history of American Boarding Schools, and Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women (#MMIW).
