India currently harbours 37 species and subspecies of freshwater turtles and tortoises across the country with a recent addition to the country’s checklist just in 2019! With freshwater turtle and tortoise populations under severe pressures of extinction due to a myriad of anthropogenic threats, crucial yet easily accessible information on their ecology and habitat interactions are lacking even today. Our country’s freshwater ecosystems are under relentless attacks like never known before; there has never been a more crucial time for us to start working towards freshwater conservation in India.

Freshwater Turtles and Tortoises of India was set up with the very intention of conserving freshwater chelonians and their habitats through dedicated research, outreach and education.

At FTTF, we are always in need of support for our research and conservation programmes. Your contributions will help further the cause of freshwater conservation by supporting our activities to conduct research and field work, maintain organizational overheads and provide support to conservation and training programmes.

You can also support FTTF’s efforts by letting others know about us and our work!
