Coach Chuck Bing

25 March 2024

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we inform you of the loss of one of our cherished BMHA family members, Coach Chuck Bing.

Chuck was an assistant coach with the U9A Stingers and was adored within the BMHA as a husband and father, a coach, a mentor, and a friend.  While not all our members were directly connected to the U9A team, numerous families knew Coach Chuck because of his warmth, his kindness, and his ability to use his humour and encouragement to connect with every young Stinger he met.

As we all try to process the passing of such a kind, caring and loving young man we are also all thinking of Chuck’s wife, his three children, his family, and his countless friends in the BMHA and the community in general.

There are absolutely no words that can express how much our hearts are broken for you, nor are there words that can ease your sadness, but please know that you are loved, and our thoughts are with you all.

With the season drawing to a close, the BMHA is doing what we can to make sure that your Stingers had a valuable and meaningful hockey experience this past year.  Part of the process involves the coaching evaluations to be completed by parents.

This season, we will be using Google Forms so that families can complete the evaluation at their own convenience.  Please take the time to complete the evaluation as honestly and as thoroughly as possible.  The BMHA is committed to providing excellence for its members and these evaluations are a valuable tool in achieving that goal.

Please complete the coaching evaluation here.

As always, we would like to thank our excellent volunteer coaches, managers, trainers as well as our parents for helping to create our wonderful Blackburn Stingers hockey community.

All the best and we’ll see you at the Kemp!

Go Stingers!

Ontario Dressing Room Policy

10 January 2024

Hockey Eastern Ontario (HEO), Hockey Northwestern Ontario (HNO), the Ontario Hockey Federation (OHF) and Hockey Canada have announced an updated Dressing Room Policy that applies to minor hockey participants and teams in Ontario, effective Feb. 1, 2024.

All participants in hockey should have the right to use the dressing room with their teammates. This updated policy ensures that everyone on a minor hockey team can use the same dressing room by removing barriers that have existed in the past without having to ask for individual accommodations.

The three Hockey Canada Members in Ontario - Hockey Eastern Ontario (HEO), Hockey Northwestern Ontario (HNO), and the Ontario Hockey Federation (OHF) are hosting sessions open to anyone interested in learning more on the logistics of implementation and their roles and responsibilities. Multiple sessions are being offered. Please see the announcement for details.

Coach Kirk Parlee

9 January 2024

The Blackburn Minor Hockey Association is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of one of our cherished family members, Kirk Parlee. The BMHA was fortunate to have Kirk share his passion for hockey with us - he coached for over 13 years with the BMHA. Kirk coached teams Novice through Bantam through those years.

Kirk's passion for hockey generated enthusiasm on the ice . Kirk was known to say, "If you learned something, then I've done something right". Kirk enjoyed seeing his players grow and succeed later in school and in their lives. Kirk was proud of the players even when he wasn't coaching them anymore. Players kept in touch and visited the house and continued to call him "Coach". Kirk always felt all kids should get to play the sport. It was their "field of dreams," he said.
