Part of the Rice University Computer Science Department’s 35th Anniversary celebration, the Computing Technology Summit showcases over 50 CS faculty and alumni speaking about their areas of expertise. Panels and keynotes begin Friday morning and conclude on Sunday morning. Some of the most popular topics include Animation and Graphics, Dev Tools, Education, Inclusion, Innovation, Machine Learning, Product Management, Startups, and Systems. Our speakers are flying in from the East and West Coasts, representing startups as well as established tech companies like Google, Facebook, DoorDash and Two Sigma.

In addition to the Computing Technology Summit, activities of interest to Rice alumni include attending classes and having lunch with favorite CS professors, keynotes and panels about the department in retrospect, and alumni-faculty Beer Debates.

Planning these events all began last November, with a faculty committee. In their words…

Rice University’s Computer Science Department turns 35 on July 1, 2019. We will be celebrating the alumni and faculty members who have contributed so much to our academic programs and to technology-driven industries and organizations, including those you have launched as entrepreneurs.

A department faculty committee and alumni focus group have shaped an exciting agenda that spans 70 hours and includes both keynote addresses and panels of speakers, as well a career mixer. We’ve also arranged a research and demo fair to highlight some of the technologies our CS community members are developing.

All speakers, panelists, and presenters are Rice CS alumni, faculty members, and students. You can expect to hear a short retrospect of the department’s evolution as well as forecasts for the future of technology, education, employment, and ethics.

This rich agenda, however, is just a vehicle for you to come together and re-connect with your Computer Science classmates, professors, labbies, TAs, and research teams.
