Our core values

To establish our company values, we invited all of our employees to weigh in.

EXCELLENCE

We strive for excellence in everything we do: Our journalism, our organizational culture, and our engagement with the public. Our aspiration is to earn the trust of our readers, respect of our peers and loyalty of our customers.

FAIRNESS

We aim to understand people, ideas and issues and treat them fairly. Our role is to encourage conversation, mutual respect and deeper knowledge. We approach decision-making with open-minded impartiality, and seek to establish practices that reflect and maintain fairness.

TRUTH

We are privileged to be seekers, tellers and guardians of the truth. We prize honesty and the verifiable fact—in our journalism, in our managerial and business decisions, and in our communication with readers, customers and the community.

DIVERSITY

We are based in one of the world’s most diverse places and strive to reflect that in our organization and in the work that we do. We believe that diversity is a source of strength: When people from different backgrounds join together to face challenges, solve problems and tell stories, we serve our community better and do better work.

TRANSPARENCY

As a journalism organization, we have a moral obligation to be transparent. We communicate openly and regularly with our employees, readers and customers, about the work that we do and about the company itself.

Our mission is to inform, engage & empower.

We are committed to honoring our history of journalistic excellence, reinvigorating the industry, and continually expanding our storytelling and digital platforms that are vital to delivering the news.

Our newsroom

First published in 1881 as the Los Angeles Daily Times, since its inception, The Times has played a crucial role in the growth of Los Angeles.
The Times grew with the city, losing the word “Daily” in the title, and became the largest metropolitan newspaper in the country.

Mark-Dial

In February 1983, I came seeking a job and found instead a career full of opportunities to learn and grow. I was quickly provided opportunities to advance to roles with more responsibilities. Through my 36 years with the company, I’ve progressively grown as a person, a leader and business entrepreneur. All of this was possible because of a culture that rewards hard work, supports the well-being of employees with excellent benefits, champions employee involvement, encourages & rewards creative thinking and values teamwork.

Mark Dial, Executive Director of Manufacturing & Distribution

Angelica-Pilarca

Working at The Los Angeles Times has been such an enjoyable and rewarding experience in my career. I’ve been given lots of opportunities to learn and work with new technologies as well as collaborate with some of the brightest engineers I’ve ever met. The Los Angeles Times has a very flexible work environment and leadership always goes out of their way to support their engineers.

Angelica Pilarca, Software Engineer (Digital Tech Team)

Diego Micheli

I’ve been a Data Engineer in LAT for two years now. Career-wise it’s a great place to work. Often we have exciting challenges to solve, and we use the latest technologies for it. It’s cool to apply all that in a centenary company like this. The work environment is friendly, and my workmates are at the level of the challenges from their diverse disciplines.
