A STANDALONE second chance, enemies-to-lovers romance set in the cutthroat world of sports management.

They're two sharks in a fish tank...

JARED

If I had a dollar for every time Banner Morales made my heart skip a beat...
The heart everyone assumes is frozen over.
Her anger is... arousing.
Every glare from those fire-spitting eyes, every time she grits her teeth, gets me... well, you know.
If I had a dollar for every time she's put me in my place, I'd be an even richer man.
I'm a successful sports agent because I assume "no" means you'll think about it.
I'm sure what you meant to say is "Coming right up.”
They say even rich men don't always get what they want, but those men don't know how to play the game. The trick is to keep them guessing.
Take Banner. She assumes she's winning, but this game?
She doesn't even know how to play.

BANNER

If I had a dollar for every time Jared Foster broke my heart, I’d have exactly one dollar.
One night. One epic fail. One dollar... and I'm out.
I've moved on.
I’ve found success in a field ruled by men.
Anything they can do, I have done better.
They can keep the field while I call the shots, blocking them when I have to.
And Jared has the nerve to think he gets a second chance?
Boy, please. Go sit down. Have several seats.
I'll just be over here ignoring the man carved from my fantasies with a lust-tipped chisel.
Oh, I didn't say the struggle wasn't real.
But I've got that one dollar, and Jared won't have me.

*Spoilers, maybe*

One word to describe, Banner, our heroine: convenient.

If a guy spends the duration of an academic semester in a serious relationship with his girlfriend then hits you up only on the eve of your departure for a three month(?) internship, then you are not important to him.

If a guy, barring one lacklustre attempt, spends the better part of a decade without consistent and sustained effort at explaining the incident that caused you both to part ways, then you’re not important.

If a guy knows you’re in a relationship yet disregards it as inconsequential because, of course, HE decides that YOU want him instead. Then, not only are you unimportant, he lacks respect for you.

The greatest puzzle of this book is how, once Jared deigned to throw a smile her way, Banner went from this fierce lioness to a toothless tiger. Further, her lack of respect for Zo is inexcusable.

Overall, I’m surprised I persevered until the 50% mark before throwing in the proverbial towel. What a waste of what could have been a solid read (IMO).

JARED IS THE FUCKING MAN!! AND BANNER? I want to be her best friend! This book is EVERYTHING. IT'S REAL. IT'S SEXY. IT'S HEART ACHINGLY GOOD. IT MAKES YOU THINK. IT MAKES YOU FEEL. IT MAKES YOU HURT. IT MAKES YOUR HEART CRASH, BURN AND EXPLODE. God, I couldn't get enough of Banner and Jared. I'll be back with a proper review when I can get my head and heart together over these two.

Kennedy Ryan's writing is BEYOND amazing! This book is one of the most complete, entertaining, and engaging stories I've read this year! A 2018 Top Read!

Jared and Banner's story will WOW readers! Although its the second in the Hoops series, it can easily be read as a standalone.

Here's what I loved:
The writing is superb! Like unbelievably crisp and beautiful.
The characters are fleshed out and so real. I could totally be friends with Banner. She's my kinda girl. And Jared is every single thing that ever was!! The ultimate BBF for me.
The storyline is so good. The plot is expertly crafted. I loved everything about it.

A kickass heroine, a ruthless and sexy AF hero, and an amazing story of not only finding love, but growing to love yourself. I couldn't be more impressed if I tried. If you love good writing, amazing characters, and an emotional kick, this is a MUST READ! PURE PERFECTION!

My rating:ALL THE STARS
Highly recommended!

Block Shot is the second book in the Hoops Series. Three days ago I finished this SECOND CHANCE NOVEL and it has been three day of trying to put my thoughts in order to write this review. There’s always too many emotions to sort out when you read Kennedy’s work. This was supposed to be her less tear jerker book and still I cried HARD. Kennedy, if you wanted less tears you should had written a less REAL, WONDERFUL, INSPIRING and BADASS HEROINE; a less AMAZING, STRONG, SEXY yet ARROGANT BEAUTIFUL MAN aaaand a less passionate love story.

This novel resonated with me. Banner’s experiences and insecurities were like been in front of a mirror. Her thoughts and pain felt to close to my own. Kennedy’s words are poetry and they hit with such power that is IMPOSSIBLE not to FEEL THEM, to love them, to ingrained them in your heart and apply the lessons to your life. This is not just a super sexy passionate love story; it’s also a life lesson. One of the things I love most about Kennedy’s writing is that she isn’t afraid to bring current, controversial and real problems to her stories. So many woman will relate to our heroine and understand my feelings after reading Block Shot. The way Banner ordeals and achievements are presented will make you feel proud and will want to be like her. Makes you want to let your inner LION ROAR.

Before I get emotional ones more let me tell you a bit about the story and our fascinating couple.

Banner Morales and Jared Foster met years before they were the moguls and commanding presences in the sport industry. Their carriers will find a way to bring them back together after so many years and will make the undeniable fire of their connection ignite once more.

Jared is a powerful, respectable man with only one weakness, Banner Morales. He’ll go to any length to get her, damn the consequences. That’s doesn’t sound too swoony in real life but God the way Jared loves Banner surpasses many of my book boyfriends. He truly, deeply SEES her. His love, respect and protective instincts towards her will make you fall in love with him HARD. He is the kind of man that will do anything to make sure his love ones and his woman shines, succeed. He will be the silent support and rock. Always waiting to to see if his strength is needed to make sure they are pick up before a fall. Plus his alpha male, sexy hot swagger will make you burn inside out.

Banner Banner Banner! You are definitely my FAVORITE heroine from all the books I have read from Kennedy. Maybe it’s because her story became more personal in a way but she is sure a woman to admire. A woman that showed the MEN WORLD who is boss, who really rules this world; GIRLS. A woman brave enough, real enough with flaws and the ferocity of a Lion. A beautiful, smart, sexy, strong heroine that for sure will be a role model and inspiration for many as she was for me.

I already have said TOO much about this book. I just want you all too pick this up because books like this are so difficult to find. This is the type of story that you take with you and never forget. Oh and don’t worry the steamy sexy hot hot scenes we are used to have from Kennedy are definitely present to make your undies burrrrn. You will see a bit of August, Iris and Sarai. I can’t wait for you all to read this marvelous love story. This is a 1-click, no question ask type of book and author. Don’t forget to pick this up Monday September 10.

“Be unafraid to want it all and be disciplined enough to work hard to get it.”

Kennedy Ryan has done it again! Written a profound, empowering, and important book. Not to mention emotional, angsty, sexy, and completely captivating. THIS my friends, is why she is one of my favorite authors. Block Shot blew me away.

Banner and Jared meet in college. Banner is the smartest girl Jared has ever met, and Jared is the most handsome guy. They both are insanely attracted to one another, but Banner is not the type Jared usually ends up with. She’s not thin, blonde, or gorgeous. At least not in her own eyes. Jared sees her differently.

I honestly don’t know what’s under all those layers Banner wears, but those aren’t the layers I care about. I want to peel back her surface and study her soul.

Something beautiful that happens between Jared and Banner becomes ugly and the two go on with their lives. Both graduate college and become successful sports agents. Fast forward years later, and they are in the same city. Running in the same circles and running into each other constantly. Banner can’t get away from Jared fast enough every time she sees him, but Jared won’t let her go so easily this time.

 photo IMG_1944_zps7uemazmp.png

Banner and Jared had a pull to one another. It was there from the moment that they first met and never wavered with time. My favorite thing about this book is how much they both were attracted to the other- not their outsides, but as human beings. Jared wanted Banner no matter what size she was and Banner saw beyond Jared’s beautiful shell and loved the man he was on the inside. They were passionate about one another and that was beautiful.
Banner was attracted to me, for her it wasn’t about how I looked. Not really. Just like it wasn’t about that for me either. I would have fallen for Banner blindfolded.

“You’re so beautiful,” I whisper, my hands addicted to the feel of him. “It’s only a shell,” Jared says, his words seductive, his breathing more erratic. “I’ll crack it open for you and pour everything out.”

As much as this is a powerful love story, it’s also a story of a powerful woman and I loved that! Banner is kick-ass. She is strong, independent, and successful. She doesn’t need a man to complete her, she wants a partner that challenges her. She’s a woman I think many of us can look up to and aspire to be more like.

Block Shot is the second book in Ryan’s Hoops series (though they can be read as stand-alones) and I couldn’t tell you which book I loved more. Both are epic in different ways. And I can’t even wait for KeLo’s story! I’m so excited to get more from this world. This book is a MUST READ. It’s a truly fantastic book that was addicting and brought a great message out along with an amazing romance. Another book that will be going on my 2018 favorites list!

“For good?” He frowns and gives a quick shake of his head. “For good is too sanitized. I want your dirt and your pain and your darkness. Your weakness and your flaws.” He sprinkles kisses over my cheeks and nose, leaving adoration everywhere he touches me. “I don’t want you for good, Banner,” he says. “I want you forever.”

Be braced. I read a book I think is vitally important and I love it and I can’t even think about how to collect myself. I’m really trying to pull it together because you need coherency and all I can think of is the precise angle to just start shoving Block Shot into reader’s hands and eyeballing (with intensely raised brows) until they finish it! Annnnd that is probably not the best way to go about it. I think you’d prefer I just organize some words and tell you what to expect from this new book.

Ahead you are going to encounter some bombastic, elite level of fangirling (or I can do the book shoovey, eyebally thing?!?) because Block Shot is here y’all!

L-O-V-E-D it. So many laughs. So many tears. I have what may be permanent pearl bead indentations on my hand from the frequent pearl clutching. I had no idea what to expect from this novel. I’ve been reading Kennedy Ryan for years and she always delivers. Her hallmark? Deeply poignant and transformative writing. Her characters are perfectly imperfect. The stories, contemporary and uncannily relatable and authentic.

Block Shot is book 2 in the best selling Hoops series and features Jared Foster and Banner Morale. Both Jared and Banner are very successful, and rival spots agents who have H-I-S-T-O-R-Y. It is the enemies to lovers and second chance romance you don’t want to miss.

Jared wasn’t supposed to go for girls like her. He was gorgeous, smart and impressive, even as a co-ed. Sure they would never happen, Banner settled for his friendship, cherishing their every moment together, studying and doing laundry at the campus laundromat (damn laundromat *shakes fist*…a little foreshadowing, but you will come to abhor said laundromat as well, promise!).

Banner was his dream girl. Unbelievably smart speaks several languages and is absolutely beautiful to him. Fed up with passing the time with easy and empty-headed girls, Jared makes his move and what began as a secret moment, is harshly stolen from them, setting the stage for years of acrimony and rivalry.

Until fate reunites them, the timing couldn’t be worse and Banner has all her industrial strength walls up, but Jared is taking his shot and he’ll be damned if anyone or anything is going to block it!

1.“You can quote me on that.”
“The Daughter of a Lion is Still a Lion”

The first time I saw this quote, I felt chills. It felt so powerful and affirming. Block Shot is full of quotes that speak to your soul. So much of the book is highlighted. I never want to forget the way these characters and their words made me feel. There is a strong arc about women and their place in the “man’s world” of sports management. Banner was a warrior and spoke to the feminist in my heart. Apart from the pro-woman rallying quotes, the quotables surrounding love and loyalty and utter honesty and self-actualization were sublime.

2. Banner.
“I don’t give a damn about odds,” she says. “Odds don’t tell me what I can’t do. Odds just tell me how hard I’ll have to work to get what I want. Don’t allow anyone to make you feel less.”

Block Shot is exactly the book I didn’t know I needed. Reading it shined a bright light on how badly I’ve been missing connecting with heroines on a more visceral level. Talk about perfectly imperfect. Talk about relating to Banner and her inner dialogue soooo closely it was almost as if I gave my personal deets to the author to base her on. I can’t (want to!!!) give anything away but I saw soooo much of myself in this character it was scary-freaky-good. I was super invested in and connected to her right away. Her struggles with self-image, her bleeding heart, her will to win when they want her to lose. Her refusal to apologize for her vagina and her challenges with loyalty, honesty and doing the right thing, even when it hurts you the most. I’m willing to bet many women will be inspired. Many.

3. Jared.
“You’re supposed to say something romantic.”

He’s so not what you expect. I love an alpha asshole hero. Probably more than the next girl. Surly is sexy to me, (not sorry!) and he…well, it took several chapters for me to stop squealing and exclaiming at something he did or said. I relished how he kept me so off balance. I loved his assholery.

Jared is such a tricky characterization. The nuance to make us love him for *exactly* who he is was such a delicate balance. Even better- he *didn’t* change! So often the standard romance M.O is to redeem and change the assholey hero. Not here! He was who he was and he loved Banner deep – and THAT was enough. He was still him, he didn’t morph into the suddenly anti-Jared guy. He was juxtaposed with another rival character and he didn’t have to go full on sap to still be worthy and for the story to work.

*Further proof that Banner is indeed every woman, I got a kick out of Banner having the exact same reaction to Jared that I was regarding his “Jaredness.” At like 12% or 17% through I had to take a break and totally go I CAN’T BELIEVE HE SAID THAT! HOW DOES HE SAY THESE THINGS! and dammit if Banner didn’t have the same sentiments, verbatim later on in the book!

Oh, Jared!

4. Refreshing and Unpredictable

I never could really figure out exactly where the story was going, the main arc and subplots were multi-layered in a way where literally anything could happen. A little more than midway through I was tormented with the desire to find out what is going to HAPPEN. I felt like I was surrounded by forks in the road, left or right, what will happen, eeeek! It is exciting and a refreshing thrill to have to be so *present* in a book you are reading because the characters zig when you expect a zag. This is definitely not “romance-paint-by-numbers” where you see the resolution coming a mile away. There is a slick brilliance to crafting a story where the build-up could have several viable outcomes. Especially in the last quarter of the book. Pins and needles.

5. Bold and unafraid to go there

By “there” I mean, any place that might challenge you or make you uncomfortable. Her stories can feel like mirrors, held up and forcing head on self-examination. Kennedy Ryan tells you a story of realistic heartache, pain, fear, loss, battle, and perseverance and dares you to look away. Loved! And true to form, Kennedy is on trend and pushing the envelope, always making you think and evaluate your personal moral compass. ‬Always framing her characters in a way where right and wrong can be two sides of the same coin. No perfect people here folks, just romantic authenticity.

6. Smex!

“So you want me to ride you, Jared?” I ask playfully as he stretches out under me and I straddle his strong thighs. “Do I want you to ride?” He challenges me with one cocked brow. “Hell, no. If you’re taking the top, you better drive.”
…………
“Is everything okay?”

Okay? Is nirvana okay? Is utopia okay? Because that is what Banner’s tight-fisted pussy feels like around my hungry cock. Like someone tossed paradise and heaven into a blender to make this moment. “Yeah, it’s good,” I say.

Understatement. No need to reveal her pussy sent me into an existential crisis.
………..
I withdraw only for a second and to the very tip, but it feels like torture until I push back in. She surrounds me. The smell of her invading my nostrils, the taste of her lingering on my tongue, the feel of her gripping not just my cock but my whole body."

I can’t imagine not having experienced this novel.

If you’ve read it already or are currently reading it, friend me and message me for heavens-sakes so we can connect because I have THOUGHTS!!!!

“And even in the dark, I know we see each other.”

Kennedy Ryan never fails to astonish me with her writing prowess. I absolutely loved this character driven, romantic, SECOND CHANCE love story and the characters whom take centre stage. Banner Morales and Jared Foster were firm friends until the devastating day they are not and it is from this point that the love story takes flight in full romantic alpha male style in the formidable world of NBA. Block Shot is the second story in the Hoops series but can most definitely be read and thoroughly enjoyed as a standalone. It effortlessly flows toggling between the first-person perspective of Jared and Banner. It made my reading heart so very happy. I smiled throughout so much of the narrative, highlighted huge sections that made me swoon with feels. It definitely shows the lighter side of Kennedy Ryan’s writing style but, even so, complex emotions are depicted and develop at the perfect pace through the narrative. The conflict of emotion within the character’s thoughts teamed with the authors compelling storytelling style made me shed emotional tears. The pivotal part August (the male protagonist from, ‘Long Shot,’ the first Hoops novel) plays in Jared’s thought process is simply beautiful and heart-warming, I loved his input. Readers who have experienced, 'Long Shot,' will adore this aspect and those that haven’t, well it matters not one bit but it will make you see what a great guy August is and compel you to dash to his story.

I felt the intense attraction between Banner and Jared who depict a relationship with growth and convincing transitions within the story timeline. Banner and Jared have both reached the pinnacle of their careers as sports agents for the elite of the basketball world. Jared wants to rule the world, he’s arrogant, powerful, sexy as anything, and knows exactly what he wants and I loved seeing him execute his desires. He made me laugh and swoon and sigh. There is something very sexy about a man who finds a woman he loves to distraction and puts her at the heart of his world, despite his alpha tendencies. Banner is the softer side of the story. Kindness and light. Strong and resilient. I love her so much and respected all the decisions she found herself having to make as the plotline thickened.

Every time Kennedy Ryan presents readers with a novel she gives something different in terms of character and plot. She keeps things fresh, organic and unique. Banner is a smart, super intelligent woman with inner strength, she has to be to succeed in her chosen career, but keeping it real, as always, Kennedy shows how even the strongest of women can have insecurities, vulnerabilities that can shape their thoughts feelings and behaviours and it is the execution of these aspects that made me warm to her so very much, especially in the early stages of the novel. This ensured that I rooted for her all the way through, felt her pain, her emotional turmoil and her passion. Her struggles resonated with me, like they will with so many other women who feel some kind of imperfection but have the capacity to overcome these feelings with unconditional and resounding love.

Kennedy Ryan takes you deep into the story, ensnares your heart with her characters and their emotions, each time fooling me into a new favourite, when in reality everything she writes is exceptional and unique and, in my top, top reads. The links made within the narrative of this novel are stunning. Subtle reminders of early happenings in the story, of experiences and thoughts linked back to later in the prose evoking strong feelings and emotion. There are moments that touched me deeply because of the way she weaves her prose, layering the nuances of her characters and their story, developing both convincingly. The story made me feel and hope and long, and will be one of my forever favourites.

Unbelievably Amazing.

Unputdownable!

Exhilarating.

Sexy.

Addictive.

Empowering.

BOLD.

These are only a few of the things I felt while reading this story. I’m a devoted Kennedy Ryan lover. Her books have been my favorite since the beginning of time. I always say every-time I read a story of hers. This book. This book right here is her best, there is no way she can get better, she won’t top this. Yaaa!she continues to surpass my expectations.

Block Shot is an exhilarating ride of firsts, lasts, perfecting the already perfect, passionate frenzy, and a whole other level kind of falling in love.

Jared and Banner meet in College and start a friendship that ends pretty much as fast as it starts. It’s now 10 years later and Jared and Banner are the top sports agents in LA. After years of avoiding Jared, Banner comes face to face with the man who humiliated and destroyed any idea of a relationship.

These two create fire when they are going at it. The banter the heat. The lust. The push and pull. I devoured this epic story.

Banner is in a league of her own, her character development was an addiction on its own. She owned it, she worked it. She showcases what a strong beautiful woman looks like. She’s phenomenal! She’s unstoppable. She’s strong. She’s fierce. She’s the epitome of what it means to be female.

Jared! This man. I loved him right from the start, he’s alpha, meets loyal, meets won’t back down. I absolutely adored everything this man had to offer. What I Truly loved was through it all he never backed down, especially when it comes to Banner. He will fight and fight and fight. And he does. He’s protective, yet possessive, yet when you least expect it, sensitive. He blew me away.

Block Shot is an Epic love story. It made me feel. It made me ache. It made me scream. It made me gasp, it made me fall in love. Bravo to Kennedy Ryan who continues to blow the reading world by storm.

queen kennedy ryan…has me giving a book with a trope i despise, 4.5 stars. i’d give it 5 stars, but in comparison to the first book, i can’t😩first of all…banner morales. the definition of a bad bitch. i should hate her😭but i don’t, i can’t and those who’ve read the book know what i’m talking about, but maybe don’t agree and that’s okay!!! i felt so connected with her character at the beginning of the book. idk how to justify the way i feel because i have a feeling that my opinion is an unpopular one…when i tell you that my heart kept breaking tho, that shit was real and so unexpected. i wasn’t ready. there was a point where i didn’t know where the plot was going and then i literally ended up crying. just a whole lot of emotions i felt for every single character. kennedy ryan took a trope that i hate and she incorporated it into the story…almost perfectly to me. jared foster…guys this man lol. we love a persistent man. after 10 years too?!?😩and the mouth he has on him👀😮‍💨he’s such an asshole, but he literally owns up to it. so i really can’t be mad. an asshole to everyone except banner ofc hehe “banner is completely mine and wholly her own. i love that about her.”🦋🦋🦋*swoons*. banner struggling with her weight throughout the entire book :( i said it in one of my updates while reading this book and i will say it again. no matter what size you are…you are BEAUTIFUL. okay? seriously so beautiful. everyone is beautiful. i struggled with my weight growing up. i used to be anorexic because kids would bully me and tell me that i was fat. and then i got bullied for being “disgustingly” skinny. i wish i could have a conversation with that little girl right now. so please if you’re dealing with people who are body shaming you…immediately message me and i can go on and on and on about how completely wrong they are and how beautiful and strong you are🫶🏼hehe to end my review…i definitely recommend this book. kennedy ryan knows how to write an amazing book! this story is packed with so many raw emotions and that’s what made it so good. i’m beyond excited for kenan and lotus’ story next!!🫶🏼🫶🏼

“I don’t want you for good, Banner,” he says. “I want you forever.”

”i wAnT yoU foReVeR” stfu. seriously, just shut up. i actually hate this book with a passion. i literally skimmed the epilogue cause they didnt fucking deserve that happy ending

im sorry but wtf??? this book was literally so bad. everything about it. EVERY. FUCKING. THING. besides zo. he deserves so much better.

i have never hated the mcs as much as i hate the ones in this book gosh like i actually cant fucking process what i just read???

i really thought this book was gonna be good because i actually liked the beginning. boy was i fucking wrong

the moment this book started going downhill, it really went downhill. no redemption. no ”kind of good” part. absolutely nothing.

can we just like talk about a couple of thing??? maybe like 100 things but n e ways fuck the spoilers imma convince yall not to read this shit

1. fucking. CHEATING. TROPE.

the way this is the worst cheating ever. cheating is already bad. i hate cheating trope but how did this book make me hate it even more?? who fucking knows.

i literally hate how fucking banner kept being like ”omg its gonna hurt zo if i cheat on him” and all that bullshit but then still cheat on him??? dont feel fucking guilty then because youre gonna go and fuck jared anyway… tf

she couldve just broke up with zo if she knew she was still into jared. idc it literally makes no sense like no fucking reasons that people pull out of their ass will justify banner’s actions

she knew it was wrong. she still did it. her fucking fault.

2. what happened to banner being a badass???

someone explain what tf happened to banner… she was so boss at the beginning and then she just did a 180???

i hated the way she was instantly weak in the knees for jared. the motherfucker could breathe and this bitch is drooling like…. i mean if jared was a hot i would too but he isnt um

her character was so unlikable. i literally hated her. she CONSTANTLY would talk about how much she ”didnt wanna hurt zo” but everything she did would do so??? like just admit youre into toxic men and move alone

”I don’t deserve you, Jared Foster,” she says, softly, surely. “But I’m going to have you anyway.”

no but when she said this it sent me spiralling. you dont deserve him??? ma’am wdym by that… i feel like she’s a bit woozy and needs help <3

3. jared should eat dog shit on the daily

oh i could go on for fucking days about this guy. he is such an asshole. no, asshole is a understatement.

he’s a home wrecking, cold hearted, disrespectful piece of shit who lacks basic human decency and has a shit personality but justifies it with ”thats just who i am”

gosh i literally cannot with this guy. im losing braincells. i cannot wrap my head around the fact that this man was ever created. just why..?

he’s also so fucking annoying like istg he’s manipulative and guilt trips her so fucking much. he’s a walking red flag and banner’s like ”omg he’s so hot. i wanna fuck him”

sigh…. idiots do be idiots i gotta say

4. zo being a BEST PERSON ever

the way zo couldve been an asshole or just a dickhead BUT NO he had to be fucking sweet. this guy is a great guy. im telling you he is like a really good guy and she cheats on him???

This fabulous story was one I could not put down. It didn't take long for me to independently love Banner AND Jared and then love them together.

I enjoy stories that are real, relatable and I especially love a story I can relate to. This one touched my heart in more ways than I can count. There were several aspects of the story that hit close to home. I won't say which ones as I feel they will be spoiler'ish and this is a story that needs to be experienced as it comes. I believe MANY will be able to relate in one way or another. It's beautiful, captivating and astonishing.

There are different types of love represented here. I was amazed by the strength of love and the impact it can have is awe-inspiring. It can heal. It can change a person. It can survive!

Kennedy Ryan is known for her strong female characters.
Banner is fierce in all aspects of her life. How she loves, how she carries herself, in her career, as a friend and a lover. She has this fight in her that I loved soo much. I want to be her BFF ❤

This author can write a hero like it's Her duty to out due herself.

Over 400 pages and I still wanted more.
Kennedy Ryan just gets it. End of.

You can always rely on her to tell a story well even if it’s something as abhorrent and uncomfortable as cheating. Life is messy. People are worse.
But the whole thing falls under the grey spectrum for me. You judge it based on the situation. And then make of it what you will.

Banner is my kinda woman. I was rooting for her through and through. Her flaws were as apparent as were all the things that made her great. The combination of the two made her so relatable and real.

Jared is just ruthless. He hates people, which I liked. He gets what he wants when he wants it and doesn’t care for the consequences. Survival of the fittest. He is a white man, his privilege showed, he recognised it and took advantage of it, whilst working his ass off.

But Banner balanced him. And the two of them together was just incredible to read about.

I was invested from page one as I usually am when it comes to Kennedy Ryan. She writes these stories that are full of heart and emotion and about these characters that feel genuine. She nails this soulmate level connection the love interests always seem to have but puts them through the ringer. But the end is always so, so worth it.

While Kennedy can write some INSANELY beautiful prose, I hate to admit this was not my favorite from her and I think the story was a bit all over the place. The overall theme is something I think many will relate to and the steamy scenes were great. I am most definitely looking forward to the books she has to come. But there were a few things that kept me from fully enjoying this.

For one, a BIG pet peeve of mine with dialogue is when a character reiterates a fact or tidbit the person they are speaking to would already know, but it’s added in the conversation for the sake of the reader's knowledge or to serve as a reminder of something that happened in a past book. It made the dialogue in many cases seem stilted, stiff, and unnatural.

There was a lot of repeated information / thoughts throughout the story and within inner monologues that I feel should have been weeded out.

The drama in this felt overdone and contrived. One of the last “dramatic incidents” was completely unnecessary and served as a plot device to add tension, but for me just did not work.

Also adding some other things in the spoiler tag:

I also didn’t quite believe Jared to be the 'heartless, cocky' guy he was being depicted as. Yes, he repeated these sentiments in about every other inner monologue so the reader could believe it, but most of his actions just didn’t show us this. For some reason (and maybe this was because there weren't enough situations to hone in on this and it was mainly just talked about), his persona did not come across as all that genuine to me. I will say I REALLY adored his unwavering love for Banner, though.

Block Shot didn't turn out to be a favorite for me but I'm still very excited to read Kennan and Lo's book!

Kennedy Ryan doesn’t do small stories. No, she does epic. In every sense of the word and that’s also why I admire and enjoy her work so much. Block Shot spans over ten years and as a result of that Ryan has laid a strong foundation for Jared and Banner’s story. Not only do they have history but it’s a history which has shaped and influenced them tremendously. What transpired between them in college left a permanent mark on them both and in their memory. Because of all those years they have a connection and so do I. A strong and an impenetrable one.

Block Shot is a strong character driven story. Banner and Jared captured my heart immediately. Kennedy Ryan doesn’t hold back when it comes to Banner. She shows the reader her flaws, insecurities and her strengths. Banner is a fierce, vocal and beautiful heroine who I couldn’t help but fall in love with. My respect for her only kept growing as the story progressed. She embodies traits I admire in people and flaunts them proudly. Her integrity is everything to her and also why she’s such a successful agent.
Jared. Oh my lord Jared was intense and mine! I claim him. He’s ruthless and determined. Especially at his work is where he excels. Banner is his opposite and it’s game on when they come across one another. She challenges him on every aspect. Her intellect, heart and poise are no match for Jared but he’s relentless in his pursuit of Banner. Their bantering is sensual, fun and exhilarating. Kennedy Ryan’s words made my body tingle. Numerous times.
Whenever Banner and Jared are around one another there’s a titillating cheekiness lying beneath the surface just waiting to burst through. It oozed off the pages. Absolutely breathtaking.

As much fun and sexy as Block Shot was it also has a strong message. Ryan delivers it effortlessly and flawlessly through her characters. In this case the fabulous Banner.
Ryan’s prose is hauntingly beautiful and even the tiniest and insignificant word hold so much emotion thanks to her exquisite storytelling.
Block Shot is another magnificent book from Kennedy Ryan. Grand and epic. That pretty much sums it up. WOW INDEED.

4.5 ⭐️ WHY DID I LOVE THIS SO MUCH??? 😃 banner was an absolute queeeen!!!! she slayed in every way possible. and jared mf foster? a menace to society. i couldn’t stop laughing & i had a fantastic time, which is why this is rated so high.. purely because the ✨vibes✨ really got me. the way it was also sort of.. villain.. gets the girl? i’m into it.

this does have a trope that most people hate, me tho… i didn’t mind it as much as i should’ve. the miscommunication pissed me off sometimes but nothing too crazy.

the only reason it’s not a 5 star for me is because i wanted more from the plot.

Block Shot was one of my most anticipated reads this year. As soon as I finished Long Shot, I couldn't wait to get my hands on the next installment in this series. Since I've loved every book I've read by this author thus far, I assumed this time would be no different. I was right!

 photo vhh_zpsbe241uui.gif

Kennedy Ryan's writing is beautiful and poetic. I'm seriously in awe of her every time I crack open one of her books. From the way she describes the act of a simple kiss to the smallest physical description, she has a way with words unlike any other.

The woman was born to write. There are no two ways about it. Everytime I reach the end of one of her novels, I feel like I've read a work of art. She has proven herself to me time and time again. The only thing that would have surprised me is if this book didn't impress me.
 photo black-and-white-blackandwhite-couple-gif-Favim.com-3299254_zpsoohgeyr6.gif

Like all of her characters, Banner and Jared are strong, flawed, and incredibly realistic. Their relatability is what I love most about them. Banner especially made me love her despite her mistakes. I also like how the author tried to show that people can do terrible things and still not be terrible people.

What I admire most about this author's books though is that they tackle issues that most other romance novels don't. They're unique and complicated, and she delivers them in a way I'm not sure anyone else could. The emotion that pours from the pages is yet another testament to her talent. In other words, her work is magnificent, and I will always look forward to reading whatever she writes.

Block Shot is emotional, steamy, and captivating. The characters are complex, and the romance is messy. If you're a fan of this author's work, don't hesitate to pick this one up!

I recommend this to fans of contemporary romance.

P. S. There is cheating in this book, so if that's a hard limit for you, I would skip this one.

I am not a small woman. I’ve had four children. I get weight struggles! I just don’t want my escape into the literary world to be focusing so much on it. I feel like it was her identity. And not that she was more than her weight, which in my mind is how it should be. I feel confident that this message was not the author’s intention, but it bothered me enough to be done with the book. She struggles with her weight and it is constantly mentioned from her daily rituals, the workouts, the diet, the app she uses, even the speech she gives at a convention, and pretty much every time she has a conversation with the H. It got old quick for me. I wanted to scream “come on already and understand that you have so much more to offer than your weight!” It also felt like it was pointed out more times than normal how hot he is as if that should matter...ugh.

There’s also the . I usually don’t have an issue with it in my books, but for some reason it rubbed me the wrong way because it felt like it could’ve been avoided by the h communicating more and not falling under the hot guy hypnosis. Especially because she was supposed to be this uber smart and controlled chick! Where was she?! Double ugh.

I cannot believe I hated a Kennedy Ryan book 😭 She is one of my top favourite authors and I have never rated any book by her less than 4 stars and I can't believe she wrote this book. This book was... in simple term trash. I hate to say this but it is what it is.

The characters were written in a realistic like any other character written by KR but they both are so obsessed with each other that they would do anything to get back to each other even cheating.

There are so many things I did not liked in this book. So let's begin.

— The cheating trope. I have read my fair share of this trope in books and I hate this trope except when it's reasonable like in Long Shot by KR. It was understandable when Iris cheated on her rapist boyfriend with August and I was rooting for her to get back her life in her own hands but Banner (fmc) cheated on her bestfriend (Zo) of ten years just because she didn't felt the sparks she felt with Jared(mmc). And she also tried to justified it by saying she's not a cheat and that she didn't wanted to but she also never stopped when Jared starts kissing her.

“Don’t you feel bad, though?” I ask, pressing the back of my hand to my forehead like I might have a fever.
“If you’re serious about not cheating on him, one of us has to care, and it’s not me,” he says flatly. “I’m not made that way.”

— The romance in this book was just physical. Jared and Banner had no chemistry. Physical chemistry and sparks? Yes. But no intimate or emotional chemistry. The rivals/enemies to lovers trope was executed well and I enjoyed it in the first half but after that I just didn't know what happened and why they were so obsessed with each other?

“But Banner . . . she’s not anyone else. There’s only one Banner, and she’s mine. I can admit that. I can say she’s my match. That we belong together. She’s my equinox.”

— Jared Foster. I can smell a red flag from a mile and I was right about Jared. He's a typical american red blooded male who is possessive, arrogant and obsessed with one girl since college and he doesn't care what he has to do to have her. Make her cheat on her bestfriend/ boyfriend? Easy. Even if she regrets it? Doesn't care. Make her do it again and again because you can't keep it in your pants? Always. Jared's love for Banner felt more like a chase. Like he couldn't fathom the thought of another man having someone that he was entitled to because he liked her first.

“You want me to relieve you of the responsibility? ’Cause I’ll do it. I don’t mind being the villain, but between you and me, we’ll know that you want it as badly as I do. I’m just the one with the balls to make it happen.”

— Banner was pathetic. She was strong and ambitious but she's the biggest hypocrite ever. At first, she said she cannot fathom the idea of any man cheating on her because she came from a very loyal family but she didn't hesitated to cheat on Zo because she did not get the D she wanted from him or maybe she just wanted Jared's D. At first, it was just a one time thing and I thought she would tell Zo before she had sex with Jared. But no. The only thing I liked about her was how she cares for the people she loves. And I liked how she helped Zo when he had no one to rely on.

“I know I should. I’ll regret this. I close my eyes and see Zo’s dear face, hear his voice saying he loves me, but it’s not enough. It’s never been enough, and my only sin was not telling him, not facing the truth that I don’t love him that way. That was my only sin.”

— The love triangle. It was not needed and I hated every second of it. Zo was dragged in the mess for no reason. That man lost his whole family in an accident and he only had Banner, her friendship and her family for years so, I really hated it when she cheated on him with Jared because this man didn't deserve the shit Banner gave him.

“I’ve known Banner longer, but he’s had the last ten years with her. I had what? A semester? One night? I can appreciate the sheer audacity of me barging into her life and dismembering a relationship, a decade-long friendship. It’s a hard road ahead of us, but I’m willing to walk it if she is.”

— I did not liked how the story progressed. It was mostly character driven story and while I love those stories, this just felt forced. One minute Banner was asking for Zo's forgiveness and the next he is diagnosed with some rare incurable life threatening disease and asked Banner to put a hold on to her relationship with Jared!? It was so unnecessary.

I liked the starting and maybe like 30% of the first half of this book and I even liked the ending and that was the only time I was rooting for Jared and Banner. I am so happy for Zo though because he got the woman and life he deserves. I am finally free and please Kennedy never do it again.

——————————

I did not like jared in book 1 also i heard this book has cheating trope 😭 i am already crying lol. Just let me know if i heard wrong bcs i hate this trope sm 😭

The writing is superb! Like unbelievably crisp and beautiful.
The characters are fleshed out and so real. I could totally be friends with Banner. She’s my kinda girl. And Jared is every single thing that ever was!! The ultimate BBF for me.
The storyline is so good. The plot is expertly crafted. I loved everything about it.

Banner was a badass and inspiring heroine. I basically want to be her BFF. Love. Jared was super swoony. I mean, there were a few moments when I doubted him, but they were pretty short-lived. One of my favorite things in romances is when the hero is 1000% in for the heroine and that was certainly the case here. Even though there was someone else in her life at the time. Parts of their story are messy, no doubt, but overall it was gorgeous. Quite a ride, but gorgeous.

I think what always makes Kennedy’s stories stand out to me is the layers in it. You can read it for the romance and the characters and thoroughly enjoy it, but you can also look a little deeper and find MORE.

A kickass heroine, a ruthless and sexy AF hero, and an amazing story of not only finding love, but growing to love yourself. I couldn’t be more impressed if I tried. If you love good writing, amazing characters, and an emotional kick.

I still love this book! And Teddy Hamilton as narrator. Yes, please!

book playlist

I loved this book very very much.
I would even dare to say I loved it more than book one. I know, right!
Both books are great don't get me wrong, but different great.

Just when I thought Kennedy would go easy on me... she did this plotline.
Wuuut?! I cried, I reflected, I felt it...Banner I feel you deep in my bones!

I might have also listened to this song on repeat...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3c7NU...

On another hand I loved Jared. He is my type of hero. Unapologetically himself, a bit of an asshole knows what he wants and is not afraid to get it. He cares for his family and is sweet behind that armor.

"Some emotions are so strong, some losses so essential that the heart—not your beating heart, your feeling heart—can’t contain them, so the body absorbs the blow. That’s how I grieve my mother."

Of course, I get that some might have issues with the conflict of the story and how everything developed. Why they went for years without speaking and somewhat of a misunderstanding. And another thing that might bother you is I wasn't bothered with anything of it. Imperfect characters made this book more real for me. Because life is like that. I love that way how Kennedy delivers a story with a lot of realism but still adds that magical touch of fictional romance. And I am okay with it all.

All I need is - THAT APP. Asking for myself!!

I want to give a special shout out to;
- positive female friendship and the theme of friendship overall
- great way of portraying a woman working in a man dominated field; without her being a bitch and actually being herself and kind and still being successful

I love this book!!! If that was unclear!!!

5 “Killer with a Heart” Stars

This book was absolutely wonderful and spectacular. It took two people who each had insecurities, doubts and fears and showed them that it was okay to have them because their ultimate love helped to unburden their souls. I can’t tell who I loved more in the story.

Jared is a man who is strong, sexy, confident and is brazen to go after what he wants when he decides he wants it. He wears his heart on his sleeve to the woman he can’t live without but deep down he knows he isn’t worthy of her love.

Banner is a strong, intelligent, caring, compassionate woman who has doubts about herself. Those doubts concerning her weight are always there and serve as a reminder to her that she isn’t “perfect”. And definitely not perfect for the man who broke her heart.

But Jared and Banner were similar as they were different. They were each full of self-doubt but yet both exuded an inner confidence that shined. Jared the “Killer” and Banner the “Killer with a Heart” were a calamity of sorts that were attracted to one another but timing and age needed to come first before the light was able to shine through.

Block Shot is a book that every person on the planet can relate too -and that is, everyone doubts themselves in one form or another. From not being thin enough, to not being good enough, to not being lovable enough, no one lives a perfect life. You can mask what others see, what others say, but what you feel on the inside can’t be masked. You have to work through those issues and when there is that someone that “Sees You” for you and you “See Them” for them, love and acceptance begins to radiate.

Every love story has it’s Own niche. It can be enemies to lovers, sweet romance, second chance romance, angsty, or romance that makes you feel in its own way. Block Shot is an amazing romance with a purposeful meaning. Kennedy Ryan has such a special gift. Her writing is from deep within her heart. It speaks to so many people on so many different levels. She makes you feel, she makes you cry, she makes you laugh, she makes blush, but her incredible, undeniable talent is her gift to connect to everyone. I have loved every book I have read by this author. They are incredibly moving but they always speak to me. I’m a glutton for happily ever after’s and the way this author gets to hers is always a journey that makes you recognize that the world can be unkind and uncaring but at the same time it is also amazing and uplifting.

I hope that I have #ConvincedYou to read this book. I know it’s not your regular review of the story. There is angst, there is tension, there is hate and their is love. This is a second chance romance but it’s one of depth and so much feels. I loved that every word on every page made my heart feel by leaps and bounds. From joy and sadness, from anguish and hopefulness, and from hate to love.....all emotions rang loud and proud throughout this story. Two characters who were night and day, one being virtuous and the other being flawed but both were stars destined to collide. And watching them come full circle was a perfect heartfelt story. A Definite Top Favorite of 2018!!

Really liked it!

This story is about Banner and Jared, two sports agents that are soulmates. They first met in college and always liked each other. Due to a misunderstanding they part ways in bad terms and reunite after 10 years. They are both successful and on rival companies, but their story is not really centered just around that, it goes much deeper.

I loved Banner! Her strength, kindness, drive and good heart are what makes her so special. I didn’t agree with a few of her actions (specially when she was dating Zo) but she’s still a good person and one I would love to be friends with in real life.

Jared was amazing too! I loved his honesty and how deeply he loves Banner. There’s a couple of scenes that really touched me and that completely made me fall in love with him.

I enjoyed seeing August and Iris too. Its so nice when a couple you love makes an appearance in other books.

Overall this was another great book by Kennedy Ryan and one I highly recommend.

Re-read as Audiobook:

My goodness this was so awesome the second go around. It got me in a spot of trouble when the headphones weren’t connected and I pressed play at work just as Jared moans and says, “And her release triggers mine.” 😳😬😅 But I still wouldn’t take back a single moment... or blush. Hahaha

Absolutely can’t wait for Lotus and Keenan 😍

Original:

Only you could make me step right over the line that delineates my comfort zone and cry while I’m doing it too, Kennedy.

I can’t say enough about Banner and Jared that would convey just how special their connection is. Their story sparked so much emotion for me. I wanted to hate their predicament. I wanted to be indignant at the lengths that Jared goes. I simply couldn’t bring myself to do so. It would taint an experience that was absolutely enthralling. I couldn’t put it down. The characters were compelling and flawed. They came alive for me and made me feel.

The plot touched on such a sensitive topic and I thought I’d struggle with reading it. However, as I devoured the pages, I decided then and there that I would follow Kennedy onto whatever journey she chose to take me without hesitation. Not just this time but every time she decides to open up her talented mind to us through her books. I can’t say enough about how amazing this series is. 💜

***COMING SEPTEMBER 10 ***

5 Equinox CROWNS

Kennedy Ryan continues to astound me with her complex and dynamic characters, her exquisite prose, and plots that continually make me examine my assumptions and preconceived notions on life. Her books appeal to my literary soul and my romantic heart, truly making her books must reads no matter what topic she chooses to tackle.

One of the attributes of Kennedy’s writing is that she writes honest characters, filled with flaws. Are they always likable? I think so. But do you always like everything they do? No. Jared and Banner make a lot of mistakes in this book, but their actions after and their acceptance of responsibility make their transgressions more understandable, more relatable, and on a level more acceptable. There are no justifications made, no excuses thrown out, and, as a result, these two earned my respect as a reader.

Jared, specifically, isn’t your typical hero. He has no honest and honorable goals when it come to Banner. Is he honorable in all other aspects of his life? Yes. But when it comes to Banner, he walk through any wall or person to get to her and have her. This should turn me off. I know this; however, his honesty and tenacity when it comes to her lured me in. He is consumed by her and makes no excuses for it. He has one line of vision and sole focus, and it is HOT! What really solidified the deal for me, though, is his respect for Banner. She is the one person he will even amend his goals for. He loves her and wants to nurture he she is, and Jared sacrifices for her in a way that kills him but preserves who she is at her core. SWOON!! Seriously! A man who puts his woman first, choking down his own issues and pride. It just doesn’t get better than Jared!

Kennedy Ryan knows how to write a heroine, and Banner, I dare say, is my favorite Ryan heroine. She is real in everything she does. From her insecurities to her intelligence, women will resonate with her. She is driven, successful, and a hard worker. She has risen to the top in a male dominated work force through grit and determination and hard work. She is smart and shows it, refusing to hide to placate men who are afraid of her strengths. She has the biggest heart and compassion of any character I can recall. Of course she is gorgeous, but what makes her more beautiful is her flaws. Her insecurities make her relatable and real. Her issues with her own weight I have felt. Her healthy way of dealing with it and the self love she cultivates is a message every woman needs to hear. There will be readers that don’t like her for the mistakes she makes, but her mistakes make her an authentic character, because people make mistakes. It was what happens in the aftermath that shows true character, and Banner’s character is solidified in what follows her indiscretion! She is truly a class act, and I adore her.

With all Kennedy Ryan novels, there is a bit of heavy, and Block Shot has that. It is l, however, no where near what some of her previous books are. This is light in the Kennedy Ryan world. That doesn’t mean there aren’t hot topic issues addressed. I don’t think it would be a Ryan book if readers were seeing the world through shades of gray, and Banner and Jared, once again, make readers see situations are always so black and white. My preconceived ideas on topics addressed aren’t so clear cut anymore. Love can’t always be contained. But this is more than a story about their love. It is an examination of feminism, of equality in the workplace, of compassion, and if staying true to who you are. Trust me, their love is steamy and consuming and inspiring, like all of her couples are, but it is more. With Kennedy, it is always more.

Kennedy Ryan continues to be a one-click author for me because she challenges me as a reader. She makes me examine my ideas about humanity. And let’s be real, she gives me hot heroes and fierce heroines with consuming love stories. Her books leave me feeling like love can conquer all the hate in the world and inspires me to be a better, more understanding person. When I get that and an epic romance, it can never be wrong .

This review will be short. It will be honest.

This book pushed my comfort zone, I stay away from books like this but I absolutely loved the first book in this series so I thought, I’m gonna try. And try, I did. And love, I fell. I kinda feel like a trader to my beliefs but right now, I’m on a Jared Foster high ♥️ Honestly, my emotions during reading this book was high, i hurt for all parties involved in this crazy circle. Yes there is cheating, so beware. In the end, my heart is still intact and I did fall hard for this couple.

If you can handle this trope, I completely recommend this one to you.

I don't know you but I'm dying to read this book!!! ;)

Expected publication: September 10th 2018

JARED
If I had a dollar for every time Banner Morales made my heart skip a beat...
The heart everyone assumes is frozen over.
Her anger is...arousing.
Every glare from those fire-spitting eyes, every time she grits her teeth, gets me...well, you know.

One dollar...and I'm out.
