Bad Dad

My son is my life. Nothing on earth matters but him.

Soon, I’ll have to send him out into society. The cruel machine that gnashes innocence and spits out the hollowed remains of a child’s imagination. It’s a place I know all too well, considering my past. I’ve worked hard to separate myself from it, but it looms in the back of my mind—waiting for the perfect moment to strike.

My son, Logan, wants to have birthday parties, make friends, play at the park—all the normal things that seven-year olds want to do. All the things I want to do with him.

I’ve put up walls around our life to shield us from danger. Giant barriers to ward off possible threats.

Cora Chapman crashes through them like a wrecking ball. She’s intelligent and hilarious with soft curves and a spark that ignites a flame deep inside of me.

There’s only one problem—she’s Logan’s teacher.

When my past wraps its tentacles around my throat and threatens to strangle the breath from my lungs, I’m given an option—fight for my family’s freedom, or die as they’re stripped away from me.

I can’t lose. I won’t lose.

My name is Landon Lane and I am a warrior.

I'm gonna apologize right now for this vague review. It's just that the hero, Landon, was so complex and I love him so much, that I don't want to spoil anything about this story for you. Just know that Landon was everything. EVERYTHING!! Oh yeah, I don't want to forget the awesomeness of Logan or Joe. Yup, Joe was a very close runner-up for my affections ;)

Bad Dad was the complete opposite from what I was expecting and I loved it!! Seriously, this was nothing like what I’ve become used to from Sloane Howell. I’ve read his sports romance, his suspense, even his erotica, but this was on a whole other level.

Immolation. That’s what his stare did to me. It set me aflame from the inside.

That right there spoke to the intense relationship that developed between Landon and Cora. Ahhhh… Landon was so surreal. I loved everything about this man. He was most definitely alpha strong, but he was fiercely loyal, dedicated, honorable, sexy, and one heck of a dad. I think his relationship with his son was the most beautiful thing about this story. Their every interaction was tinged with life lessons and so much affection that it turned me into a virtual sap. I loved how the author captured Logan’s almost hero-worship of his father. Every father-son relationship should be like theirs. It was awesome!!

”I’m a warrior for my family.” - Logan

I really would have been happy with just Landon’s thoughts alone. I know that Cora’s perspective had to be introduced to give this story depth, but I didn’t love her like I loved him. As much as I loved how Landon loved her, I didn’t. Which was okay because I don’t think I was supposed to for the most part. Her reasons for her actions (wishy-washy) were immature and she lacked a certain something. I just didn’t think that what she was offering was good enough for my boy Landon. He deserved everything. I unfortunately have this terrible habit of loving the hero and not the heroine, or vice versa, but in this instance, I at least came to like her in the end.

”We do not run! Not this family! Not from anything! NOTHING!” - Landon

This story was about love and family. About freedom and redemption. About standing tall and standing firm, especially in the face of adversity. There was plenty of action, drama, romance, and steamy times to keep the juices flowing. If you’re looking for a fluffy piece of literature, you’re in the wrong place. This story has a lot of heart and the journey to happily ever after for this couple was difficult, almost futile, and most definitely passionate.

Cora Chapman was starting over her life back in her hometown. As a teacher, she took pride in her profession. Caring for her students was a second nature to her. But her life started to change when she garnered the attention of one of her student's father.

Landon Lane strived to be nondescript. However, being a fighter made him stood out even when he was laying low. He wanted something more in his life, but his past could possibly derailed his future.

It's been a while since I read a fighter romance, so I was looking forward to this one. I'm glad to say I enjoyed the story that had a bits of everything from dark, sexy, sad and funny.

She didn’t know what she was saying. I didn’t like what was coming. Our future. Storming down the tracks like a freight train.

I like how Landon was a silent threat. His understated demeanor masked a restrained intensity. But while he's hard on the outside, he was soft and protective on the inside when it came to his family. I also love his background story because it's something different.

Cora had a caring personality that suited her career. Sometimes she was fearless, but other time she was plain coward. And I didn't like a certain aspect of her personality, which came up several times in the book.

He was slowly adapting to social cues, but still extremely rough around the edges.

My favorite character in this book was actually Joe. He was very endearing in his awkwardness. Personally, I prefer the parts of Landon and Joe's background, than the romance aspect which I think could use a little extra convincing.

We had to succeed. Failure wasn’t an option.

Bad Dad is a story of fighting for what's important in one's life. It would appeal to readers who like contemporary romance with actions and heart.

Well wow that was unexpected! Sorry but the title of this book turned me off. It is really horrible. Buuut a couple of my friends had given it great reviews so I said what the hell.

It was a great book. I absolutely loved Landon. And Logan was adorable. There was so much going on it kept me locked in from the beginning. And I was truely suprised by the ending!

Based on the fight scenes, I was pretty sure it was a male author. But I also think that really made the relationship between Landon and Logan more vivid and miles better than other dad/son relationship I have read. It was very special and a reason to read the book if not for anything else. I also loved how Landon loved Cora. He was so open and wore his heart right out there.

Now Cora - reason number one for a 4 star review and not 5. She was just ok. I hated that she freaked out so much and abandoned Landon. Hated it! She was weak of character and immature. She was not a hatable heroine, just not good enough for Landon. Of course she gets better, but I never loved her.

The other reason for 4 stars. It was not “hot” enough. It lacked in sex scenes. That is not to say it was clean. Not at all. I just think it could have used more heat.

Joe desperately needs his own book! Please!!!

Overall I really enjoyed the story and hope to find more great stories by this author.

For the last ten years, Landon Lane learned how to adapt to different situations but running from the shadows of his past proved to have consequences. As a single dad, he’s avoided romantic entanglements and has gone to great lengths to protect his son, but now Landon has a chance at freedom. With more at stake then just his well being, he makes a decision that will impact those close to him.

“Don’t ever let someone call you weak for feeling something. Ever.”

Emma Hart is an elementary school teacher who recently returns to her small hometown. Leading a fairly quiet life, Emma is dedicated to her job and when a situation requires her attention, she intervenes to help her student. Needless to say, Emma is completely surprised she lays her eyes on the student’s father. As their attraction continues to develop, Emma must accept the risks.

“You ever want something that’s just beyond your grasp?”

Leading a fairly isolated life has been easy for Landon, and when difficulties arise, he confronts the matter head on. However, Emma is the opposite and she must learn to stop running from her problems. Preparing for the fight of his life, vulnerabilities are tested and Landon must rely on what he knows to be true.

“I stormed right toward my past and left the future on hold. Had to face it. End it.”

Told in dual POV and with a steady pace, the storyline unfolds to reveal Landon’s unique background. Having his perspective helps to offer understanding to his choices and underscores the measures Landon will take to protect his loved ones. With Cora, she was a bit challenging by falling into her old patterns when she should have known better. The father/son relationship between Landon and Logan was heartwarming and felt natural. Additionally, Joe is a secondary character that infuses humor and a sense of camaraderie into the plot.

For me, I really enjoyed Landon’s backstory and how he evolved. The action sequences were adrenaline charged and his character arc didn’t follow a predictable formula.

In Bad Dad, the themes of family, friendship, honesty and acceptance are effectively weaved into an entertaining and endearing story. For those looking for romance steeped in action, I recommend!

Not a book for me.

I didn't understand/feel their connection, and I didn't necessarily like either character that much either tbh. The h started clenching her thighs from the first interaction and I was in a constant state of eye rolling. They shared their "ILYs" already by 29ish% and I didn't understand it at all!

It also felt like a Tillie Cole Raze rip off.

Once it got to the point that the H said that he was that was it for me -- too cheesy! I skimmed through and I don't feel all that bad for quitting either. Some other readers seemed to like it, but it simply wasn't my kind of book.

2.5 stars.
Picked this up as I really enjoyed Bossed and Scored by this author.
Sadly this one did not work for me at all.
Somehow I just kept on reading it anyway, like observing a car wreck unfold right in front of you (this book actually includes a scene with a car wreck ironically).
When I found out that Landon was genetically engineered to be strong and raised on a secluded island to fight and become a soldier- I think that I should have thrown in the towel then.
Actually he wasn't even my biggest problem with this book-Cora was. I couldn't relate to her character at all. I really didn't care for this "flighty" virgin whose thigh clenching activities simply got old.
The whole book leads up to a "Rocky" like fight at the end.
Writing isn't bad or I wouldn't have finished reading it. Disappointed still.

This was such a fantastic read!
This book had it all.
There was action, suspense, mystery, and of course romance.
I couldn't help but think while I was reading this story that it was a "very" erotic version of a Jason Bourne story (Robert Ludlum), with the science elements of Universal Soldier (1992 film) and Twins (1988 film).

Sloane Howell is a great writer and he can write some swoon-worthy erotica, but with this book, I was so into the story, the characters, action, and the mystery that I kinda wanted to skip over the steamy parts and get more into the 'guts' of the story.

 photo bad dad teaser 1.jpg

The protagonist Landon Lane is an incredibly loyal, determined, focused, and passionate character.
He will do whatever it takes to protect whom he considers his, and in this book, he is forced to do just that.

 photo teaser 2.jpg

But, for me, the best part of this book was how Sloane wrote the relationship between Landon and his son Logan.
It was beautiful, honest, and inspiring.

Great story!
Great characters!
Buy this book and read it!

Well yippee ki yay motherfucker. This book was absolutely fucking perfect. I’m not even sure how to word my review right now, it’s taking me forever and it’s why I’m currently sat up at 2:21am still figuring out what to write. I’m in absolute awe, this book was more than I expected and so unpredictable.

I won’t go into much details, I hate giving spoilers so I’m just gonna say the story of Cora and Landon is absolutely captivating. As soon as you begin it you won’t be able to stop. It WILL send you on a rollercoaster, a rollercoaster full of emotions and you won’t even know what hit you. I went from being absolutely devastated to extremely happy within just a couple minutes and that, that’s what an incredible book does. It pulls out so many different emotions from you and leave you absolutely shocked and that’s exactly what Bad Dad did for me. It made me FEEL. Watching the father and son bond squeezes at your heart. Even the secondary characters are kind of like the main, they’re so invested in each other’s lives it’s amazing. They’re so close, they’re a family, always.

~

Sloane Howell is an absolutely incredible writer, I’ve been a big fan of his work since reading The Panty Whisperer years ago. The thought and time he puts into each of his books is shown clearly in his writing. The descriptions, the plot, everything is exactly as it should be. Then he goes and whacks our those movie lines throughout the book which makes me love it so much more, it’s one of my favourite parts of the book along with Joe’s obliviousness (is that the right word? I’m not sure) to the real world, it was an absolute hoot to read. He’s a fun character, they all were and I’m so honoured to have been able to review for this author, it’s always an honour. I just wish I could rate it higher than 5 because a masterpiece like this deserves all the stars.

Love and Power

Since I first discovered that the writing of women's contemporary romance in the hands of an authentic male author, through reading Sloane Howell's books, I have been enamored of this writer and his perspective. There is a different turn of phrase in the erotica that makes the read decidedly different...decidedly male. This is enough to keep me reading anything new he writes.

"Bad Dad" is indeed part romance, but there were so many other elements present in the story line that make it more of a romantic suspense than an erotic romance which is how I came to know this author. In this story, Mr. Howell lets his more macho male side out to play, along with his penchant for writing "science fiction". I'm not saying I am disappointed, because I am not. It's just I was not expecting the twists and turns this imaginative story took. There is just enough (I always will want more.) romance and hot erotic love-making with a slight suggestion of kink to satisfy the lover of romance.

The male hero, Landon Lane, as viewed through the eyes of heroine, Cora Chapman, is an intriguing mix of powerful and I mean super humanly powerful, enigmatic man who adores and protects his son. As the story unfolds the reader learns the whys and wherefores of how he and his son came to live in a small town in Montana.

Cora is a young teacher who is searching for her place in the world and the love, as well as, the acceptance she never felt from her parents. Interestingly enough, her cold and detached parents managed to raise a warm-hearted and giving woman. She is utterly fascinated and enthralled with the man who listens intently and gives her careful and considered answers. He is exciting, interesting and not to mention a mountain of a man.

It is enchanting to watch these two fall in love with each other...So many surprises in the telling of their romance...those swoon worthy touches. The erotica is beautifully descriptively written. The story is told in dual points of view. The erotic description comes mostly from Landon's point of view which makes it exponentially hotter!!!

The story line goes beyond the romance into passages that describe how Landon first came to experience love through the birth of his son. It is here that I felt the author giving a piece of his own heart to the story. The MMA fight training and fight sequences are used also a like a parable that speaks to the essential human quality and value of "loving"... the surrender of your personal power...of your self.

When it comes right down to what I personally feel this book was about...well, I believe that the author is suggesting that the impossible becomes possible with the one attribute that defines us beyond our physical prowess or even our intelligence and that is pure "love". The fact that this sentiment is buried under the machismo of the MMA and the super-intelligence involved in science, engineering and the creation of technology is fascinating. There is nothing in this universe that equals or compares to the strength and power of "love".

5 flipping you the bird stars!
This book had everything you can imagine. We’re given suspense, drama, laughter, a family bond and a beautiful love story. Landon is not your average man and Cora gets to to know him on a deeper level then anyone else and it all started because she’s the teacher of his son Logan. I was consumed with this storyline it’s not one you read everyday and it’s truly original. Joe is absolutely hilarious and you learn quickly that even this man has a heart of gold. I’m trying not to give anything away with this review but I will say it is a must read hands down! Just when you think the story is done BAM where hit with more and I just loved every second. The pace was perfect and I never once lost interest, this is a true page turner that will have you holding your breath at times waiting for what’s to come next. Grab your copy and make sure it’s on the top of your TBR list! This is my unbiased and voluntary review.

ARC received for an honest review

What a completely different kind of story from Sloane Howell is Bad Dad.

I wasn't really sure what to expect with this one. After reading the blurb I was kind of expecting a lighter story.

However what we get is a darker, gripping story of a single dad and is son.

Landon Lane, father to Logan is not what you could call bad, however his situation could be.

He is a bit of an odd duck, however as the story continues you can understand why he is how he is.

Enter Cora, and you can feel the difference in him immediately.

And then there is the reason for Landon's being, his boy Logan I just fell in love with Logan right away, you can't help it.

I don't want to give things away, there is so many things going on in this story that you will be kept on your toes.

There are some great secondary characters that I really hope we get more of in the future **cough cough Joe cough cough*

It did take a little while for the story to really get going, however once it did I just had to turn the pages to find out what would happen.

Full of mystery, fun and love, I read this book in one evening.

Can' wait to see what Mr Howell brings us next.

Read a review of Bad Dad by Sloane Howell.

If you like your romance to have just a little bit more, this is an awesome read for you. Also, how can you go wrong with an alpha former military/MMA hero, single dad? The answer is you don’t.

Landon and Cora don’t meet under the best circumstances. After an incident on the playground, parents are called into school and Cora finds herself acting as a referee. Sparks fly between Landon and Cora but to be together they will have to navigate some sticky social situations and deal with a mysterious past that won’t stay history.

Bad Dad is one of those reads that will have you all wrapped up in the storyline, the characters and the suspense of it all.

Landon Lane what can I even say about him other then he's a bit mysterious, a lotta alpha, protective and he gives off this energy that you can't deny.

Landon and Cora's relationship you could say is forbidden with her being his son's teacher. Their first encounter you could feel the chemistry there. Cause let me just say that Landon's appearance at the beginning makes an impact.

Landon doesn't "people" and there are good reasons for that, one being that his main concern is the safety of his son and his need for his past to stay in the past. But Cora is someone he can't seem to stay away from. These two just connect, their passion in this book is hot.

Cora's family life is also less than ideal and at times I honest to gawd was hoping that she would punch someone.

This book really has it all. There are some heart stopping moments that will have you wondering which way the story is going to go. I will say that there were times where I said to myself. OH HELL this is not happening right now.

As the book goes on this story ramps up it intensity until everything comes to a head. And let me tell you that at one particular point in this book I lost my cool because I didn't see something coming and it left me shocked and a little bit ragey if I'm honest. Luckily Sloane fixes it for me, LOL.

A great read full of hot chemistry, intense moments and characters that you will definitely fall for.

I'm hoping a certain terminator like character will get a book. I'll just leave this hint lingering in case Mr. Howell sees this review.

Bad Dad - Sloane Howell

An incredible story of love, resilience and overwhelming perseverance.

Cora Chapman escaped her controlling parent, moving to New York to study teaching but now she’s back in Desire Montana, her Home town, ready to build an independent life for herself.

Landon Lane is the quiet enigma father of one of Cora’s students, Logan. Cora can’t help her instant interest and attraction to the big man but Landon just keeps everyone at arms distance. He’s only concern is for his son and his closest friends Gus and Janet.

Landon and Cora have such a deep connection with each other, with Logan being the glue that inevitably binds them. Their story is fraught with danger, intrigue and a heaping dose of evil in the form of Edmond and Sidious.

Sloane Howell has delivered an epic tale, sure to bind you to every page until the very end. Great characters with real truth and humanity, pure love of family and loyalty of friends.

Fabulous reading from start to finish.

Holy wow this book is just everything!
Sloane Howell has yet again smashed it by bringing us something so different and unique jammed full of fun.. mystery.. suspense and ALL the feels you can imagine!
There is so much that i want to say about this story but i really dont want to give anything away as i want every reader to be able to go in and just love reading every word just like what i did.
I can say this book is about MMA fighter Landon Lane who is a single dad to a fab little boy Logan (so many things between these 2 characters that reminded me of Sloane and his own boy) and what happens when along comes Logans school teacher Cora into their lives.
I seriously could not put this book down and it kept me so involved in it until the very last words... and even then it wouldnt let me forget as its so heart wrenching and amazing.
I honestly think this is one of Sloanes best books and i really want to encourage everyone to give it a read!!!!

Landon Lane is hiding in a quaint town in Montana trying his best to keep his past from catching up with him and his son Logan. Logan's second grade teacher shouldn't factor into this equation at all, but once Landon catches a glimpse of Ms. Chapman, he's hard-pressed to stay away.
I'm a warrior for my family.
Cora Chapman's come back to Montana after going to school and teaching in New York. She missed the quiet of Montana, the mountains and the cool air; her new second grade class is a dream and even if her boss is a bit afraid of some of the parents Cora is determined to make the most of her move back. When she runs into Logan's dad she doesn't know what to make of the giant with the sweet kid but she's too intrigued to turn away.
I'd rather live one day as a lion than a thousand days as a lamb.
Way more of this book was centered around Landon and his past than around Landon falling in love with Cora. That actually happens quite early in the story then we're left with them navigating their problems, now with a partner in tow. Landon definitely comes with more baggage than Cora, not that she doesn't have a bit too but his is more serious having the potential to affect all of his loved ones.
I stormed right toward my past and left the future on hold. Had to face it. End it.
The secondary characters in this were really well done, I enjoyed Joe and he provided some timely comedic relief, whether he knew it or not, and Janet was always attached to her kindle which made me smile. I enjoyed the way we saw Landon's past in flashbacks that sort of hit out of the blue. It was interesting to learn more about him and I was definitely not expecting the background we got for Landon. The book builds up to Landon's big fight at the end and I enjoyed the way that panned out. The ending seemed a bit odd to me, it was unexpected and I wanted something to support it a bit more. Overall it was a solid fighter romance from Sloane!

Wow What an absolutely amazing story!
Now let me begin by saying at times I wanted to strangle Cora she came across to ditzy at times for my liking and had the book not have been as great as it was I would have binned it because of that but.. the story itself had me on the edge of my seat at times and I was at war with my self about rushing or savouring this book. Some of the words in this book make you stop and think what?? did you just say that? what the hell is wrong with this guy?? but all will be revealed I think that was what sucked me in from the start I knew it had a hidden agenda and I was greedy to know why! Landon is 100% Alpha Male he is moody, mysterious and you just cannot help to love this bad boy His parenting skills would melt you and his bedroom skills would set you on fire now who wouldn't want a bit of that?
would Landon be my book boyfriend? Hell yes, he is my book husband MINE #CLAIMED

It’s rare you find a male author that writes great romances with angst, suspense and are swoon worthy. Sloane did all of that with Bad Dad. I loved how he incorporated bits of his life as a father into this story from that first page. I was intrigued as this was nothing I expected but everything I needed. There were so many surprises and nothing was expected which only intrigued me more.

It will pull on the heartstrings and warm any cold heart. Sloane will break your heart and then piece it back together. It was intriguing and mysterious while still sexy and sweet. The sexy times were scorching. It was a story about protecting your family. It was about love and hope and had just the most perfect ending.

I can keep going on about how much I absolutely loved this book from beginning to end but you should read it for yourself.

Don't let the title fool you - this dad is AMAZING!!!

BAD DAD has left me totally speechless - it was BRILLIANT!! Sloane Howell you have totally knocked me off my feet with this one. For a man who is constantly humourous and always ready to make people laugh, Sloane Howell certainly knows how to write a serious story, one that is full of angst, gritty, intense and with twists and turns that will keep you on the edge of your seat. I literally could not put it down! Landon Lane owned this story, he was a phenomenal character.

Landon, single dad to Logan, is an amazing father, his son always came first - no matter what was going on. His past may be a mystery - one that is eventually discovered - but he in no way lets that hold him back. He is determined to ensure that his son has the best life possible. Logan is such a sweetheart, he is loving, polite and just simply a beautiful seven year old boy. It is through his reactions to his son that Landon shows how protective he is and how hard he loves.

Cora Chapman, Logan's teacher, also brings out Landon's protective side and that's not all!!!! Instant attraction, protective impulses and yep...love, all come to the forefront where she's concerned. Their's is not an easy relationship, but it is one that is built on trust, communication and understanding...oh and some pretty hot scenes!! I loved Cora, she was strong, sassy and also able to show her vulnerable side.

I'm not one for books involving fight scenes, but I have to say this one would have to have THE BEST fight scenes I have ever read. Sloane's descriptions of Landon's training and fighting scenes weren't just read they were experienced. His trainer Joe was simply magnificent. That man had me laughing so much with his talk and with his phrasing of words - he was the lightness in amongst all the heavyiness that was going on.

This is an exceptional story. Definitely and absolutely a recommended read.

I went into this book 95% blind. I didn't read past the first sentence of the synopsis. This book came up in my feed with four star ratings by four of my GR friends. So, I trusted in their judgement (though I did not read their reviews at this point) and dove in. Oh, it's also the first Sloane Howell book I've read.
It Was Awesome!
The only thing I disliked about this book is the title.
Seriously.
It's exciting. A bit Angsty. Heartwarming. Really funny. Sexy. Thrilling. And even a bit mysterious.
I mean, there is a
I loved these characters, I enjoyed every minute of the story, and I loved the ending.
Five stars all the way 😁

Once upon a time there was a reviewer that thought she had an interesting plot in her hands. “Bad Dad” by Sloane Howell sounded interesting and it sparked something when I read it. On the surface without looking closer it sounded like a romance between a teacher and a parent. But there were things in that plot that sounded darker. And I like darker – I like darker a lot.
So what’s a girl to do ? well go for the book and read it – right.

So imagine my surprise … I found romance … I unfolded before my eyes at a nice and steady pace with interesting and well developed characters. Wondering what happened to my darker I kept reading and with every page I could almost taste that Landon was holding back. He was restrained the force working him almost had it’s own physical presence. And I sensed something … there was a suspense in the air surrounding the plot like the air in the middle of a hurricane. Something that had me waiting for the other shoe to drop. But honestly by the time I had read almost half the book I was at point where I thought “could I be that wrong?”

Landon was a great character and he became better and better with every chapter. Cora on the other hand, I am not sure how to say it nicely but I really didn’t like her in that relationship with Landon. She seemed a nice teacher and good with the children but when it came to her character in relationships she did not work out for a guy like Landon. His warrior attitude did not work with her hide and run tendencies in my reading world. And I was wondering from the beginning on that she did not ask the one question that I would assume every woman would ask about Logan. (or did I overlook something ? well I did an almost all-nighter with that book so it might be).

Unusual as its storyboard are also the secondary characters. And a reader has to simply mention Joe here. He is just one of a kind. I was having laughing fits at his hilarious dialogues.

This book is unusual in many accounts and I liked that it kept me on the edge. There is a certain storyboard that books follow when you check your reading % on your eBook reader. (not going to disclose what I noticed in case it spoilers reading for others) but this book went against everything I learned form this system so far. And I liked it…. The pace picked up when I would have never expected it to happen. And I went in a direction I did not expect (well at least not with these details). And when I thought I had it all figured out… I made a U-Turn and ran over me… I was sitting there with my heart beating wild … which is an interesting reaction to a book I think.

The book leaves me satisfied with what the characters achieved yet yearning for more which makes me hope that the author considers a series as I am sure I am not the only person wanting something more for Joe out of all of this …

4.5 SMOOCHES!

This is the third book I’ve read by Sloane Howell this year, and I am once again impressed by his ability to weave an interesting, intricate story. I loved both Bossed and Scored, his two connected yet standalone sports-themed romantic comedies. Howell’s writing truly captivated me in both of those books, and I was excited to get my hands on this one. Very different from his romcoms in both tone and delivery, Bad Dad was a fresh and unusual story that pulled me right in from the start and held my attention all the way through as I devoured it.

Bad Dad was a bit of a surprise in that it was not the romantic comedy I think I was expecting it to be. What it was, though, was an intense, action-packed MMA fighter story with a wildly creative twist. Howell is known for his sense of humor, and despite the more serious nature of this story, dry wit was woven brilliantly throughout the story. In fact, this book contains one of the funniest scenes I’ve read this year, and I practically roared with laughter as it played out on the page. Seeing as this is a single dad romance, I’m happy to say that I enjoyed the sweet father-son relationship in this book as much as I did the sexy romance between the hero and heroine.

I don’t want to spill too many details here since part of my enjoyment of this story was the fact that it took me by surprise at several points while reading it, and I believe other readers should have the chance to enjoy it the same way. What I will say is that Sloane created a complex hero in the socially awkward Landon Lane. He was alpha to the core, and he was driven, loyal, fierce and determined, but there was an almost cultivated sense of humanity about him that was attractive and endearing. It took a bit longer for me to warm up to Cora, though, and there were a few instances where I was legitimately annoyed with her—not enough to stop reading or anything like that, but enough that I was frustrated with her, her choices and her decisions. Again, not enough to stop me from reading or to even ruin the story, but enough that her character had to—and did—work hard to redeem herself to me. The romance between the two of them burned hot, but it was Landon’s unwavering faith in them that had me swooning on my sofa. A fantastic cast of side characters rounded out this story, enriching it with another level depth and detail that infused a bit of charm into this fascinating tale.

Bad Dad was multilayered and exciting with a suspenseful plot, a steamy romance and bursts of deadpan humor made this a different type of story than I typically read. It held my attention the whole way through, entertaining and amusing me with an underdog hero whom I couldn’t help but root for and a story unlike anything I’ve ever read from this author before. Bad Dad by Sloane Howell gets 4.5 smooches from me!

I think I’m in the minority on this one, I found it mediocre at best. Here are a few things I liked, and what didn’t quite work –

Pros
Landon – Great hero, fantastic alpha, a swoon worthy Dad.
Logan – Cute kid, very likable. Father /Son relationship was sweet.
Secondary characters – Joe, Pam, Gus, Sam; interaction with these characters made the story bearable.

Cons
Cora – Unfortunately the heroine was a big disappointment. She was annoying and immature, not very appealing. The push/pull and running away was incredibly frustrating. Inner dialogue was irritating and tiresome; it wasn’t fun being in her head.
Plot – The story was complex, there was a lot going on without enough detail. A story which started out mysterious and somewhat intriguing became a cluster. A number of secondary characters weren’t fleshed out and some actually came off as cartoonish, it was disappointing.
Ending - The conclusion was silly, so many eye rolling moments and a strange twist which seemed thrown in as an afterthought. By the end I just wanted it over.

Wow!!! Now who doesn't just LOVE a former military/MMA star/single dad alpha male??? And that's exactly what we get with Bad Dad by Sloane Howell!!

This story was absolutely amazing!!!! I was captivated from page one!! I mean we get a FANTASTIC storyline here. One that I DEVOURED! I truly didn't want this book to end.

Landon and Cora have sizzling chemistry! The sex scenes are SMOKING!!! But that's just extra for me this was all about the story which I fell in love with.

Landon is definitely 100% Alpha Male, and everything I ADORE in my alphas!! He's is moody, charming, mysterious, loving, sexy as hell, a dirty talker, and a damn good father.

Bad Dad is a definite must read! And I now consider it a top read of 2017 for me. Well done Mr. Howell!!!

*I voluntarily read an advance copy from the author. This is my honest review.*
