Senator Washington’s Scholarship

**2023-24 Application Now Available**

I am honored to have the opportunity to award scholarships to students looking to pursue higher education. As a first generation college graduate, I understand the barriers that exist for students to secure funding for higher education. Encouraging students to go to college is not only a passion for me but remains one of my top priorities. If you are a current student or plan to enroll in classes this Spring, please take a moment and apply for a scholarship.

Who may apply: All Maryland residents attending a college, university, trade school or equivalent in the State of Maryland are eligible for the Senatorial Scholarship. Current high school seniors and full-time or part-time, degree-seeking undergraduate, graduate students,  and students attending a private career school may apply.

How to apply: Complete the 2023-24 Sen. Alonzo T. Washington Scholarship Application online by going to tinyurl.com/WashingtonScholarship2023. You must also complete and submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) in order to be eligible for a scholarship.

You must enroll at a two-year or four-year Maryland college or university as a full-time (12+ credits per semester) or part-time (6-11 credits per semester), degree-seeking undergraduate or graduate student, or attend certain private career schools. Students attending out-of-state schools are welcome to apply, but in order to receive a scholarship award, the intended major or program of study must be unique to the out-of-state school and not available at any Maryland institution.

Deadlines: Complete and submit the application by 11:59pm on Friday, May 19th, 2023.

Eligible majors: All majors are eligible for scholarships. Students with a “unique major” may be eligible for a scholarship to an out-of-state school, pending approval by the Maryland Higher Education Commission. Majors are considered to be unique when they are not offered at any Maryland university or college. To verify unique major status, students must complete the Unique Major Application and submit it to the Higher Education Commission with the required documentation.

Award Amount: The minimum annual award is $400 and may be held with all State awards. The total dollar amount of all State awards may not exceed your cost of attendance as determined by your school’s financial aid office. Funds may not be available to award all eligible students.
