Moretti Announces Decision to Sign With Olimpia Milano

LUBBOCK, Texas – Davide Moretti has signed a professional contract with Olimpia Milano in Italy after playing three seasons at Texas Tech where he scored 969 points and finished as the program's all-time leader at 90.6 percent from the free-throw line (213-for-235) in 106 games played. The EuroLeague organization announced the signing on Tuesday before Moretti took to social media to thank the Red Raider program and fans and officially declare he would forgo his senior season.

"I have never been more committed to a program than I was to Texas Tech," said Moretti in a letter posted to his Twitter account. "It was an honor to represent one of the elite programs in college basketball on and off the court. I have memories that will last a lifetime and teammates that I consider brothers… I wanted to thank Coach Beard and all the great coaches that I had the pleasure to be coached by. You changed my life forever. You pushed me to be the best version of myself and I wouldn't be the player and the person I am today without you all. You all are my second family and I truly mean it."

A Bologna, Italy native, Moretti was a two-time All-Big 12 selection and also earned CoSIDA Academic All-America honors. He was named the NCAA Elite 90 winner for his achievement of having the highest GPA of all participants at the 2019 NCAA Final Four and also earned Academic All-Big 12 honors as a sophomore and junior.

"I can't wait to start this new journey, to learn and improve within a top-level organization in Europe," Moretti said.

The EuroLeague announced on Monday that it was cancelling the remainder of the 2019-20 season due to the COVID-19 (coronavirus) global pandemic.

Moretti finished his junior season averaging 13.0 points per game, including scoring a career-high 25 points against West Virginia at home. Known as a sharpshooter, Moretti made 166 3-pointers in his career which ranks ninth all-time in Texas Tech history at a 39.9 percentage. At the free-throw line he led the nation as a sophomore at 92.4 percent (97 of 105) and finished his junior season leading the Big 12 at 90.2 percent (92 of 102).

Moretti played a major role in the success of the Red Raiders over the past three seasons that included a trip to the 2019 NCAA Championship Final and the 2018 Elite Eight. He finished his time with the program with 76 victories, including eight NCAA Tournament wins that is only matched in program history by his teammates Jarrett Culver, Norense Odiase and Brandone Francis.

Along with his scoring and winning, Moretti compiled 204 assists and 94 steals for the Red Raiders. He had a career-high eight assists at Oklahoma State and made five 3-pointers against Mississippi Valley State during his sophomore season. His free-throw prowess was highlighted by going 12-for-12 in an overtime win over Oklahoma State on Feb. 27, 2019 at the United Supermarkets Arena where he had a record of 45-6 at.
